The Githyanki crèche in Baldur’s Gate 3 has a strange and foreboding device called the Zaith’isk, and Lae’zel insists on using it. She believes it will cure her of the Mind Flayer tadpole, but is it safe to use?
Baldur’s Gate 3 involves tons of choice-making, with several game-changing outcomes. Some choices result in an instant game over screen, while others leave you with a permanent disadvantage. As such, it’s natural for players to be cautious about using any strange devices.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Zaith’isk in Baldur’s Gate 3 and the outcomes you can get by using it.
Should you let Lae’zel use the Zaith’isk in Baldur’s Gate 3?
If you want the best outcomes for all your companions in Baldur’s Gate 3, you shouldn’t let Lae’zel use the Zaith’isk.
It would seem obvious to let Lae’zel use the Zaith’isk since she has insisted on going to the crèche since the beginning of your adventure in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, if you use the Zaith’isk on anyone it will actually result in a permanent debuff being placed on them. This will be especially harsh on Lae’zel, which is why you shouldn’t do it.
The Zaith’isk will begin ‘purifying’ Lae’zel of the tadpole as soon as she is seated on it. You have three chances to persuade her that using the machine might not be the best idea. However, the skill checks required to free Lae’zel all have Difficulty Classes of 30, and failing will result in a -2 penalty to Constitution, Intelligence, and Wisdom respectively. You need to be ridiculously lucky or have maxed-out Charisma to succeed against them.
Even if you let her use it, she will eventually survive the violent ‘surgery,’ but with a catch. Lae’zel will get a permanent -2 penalty to three of her stats if she uses the Zaith’isk in Baldur’s Gate 3.
What happens if you use the Zaith’isk on yourself in Baldur’s Gate 3?
If you use the Zaith’isk on yourself in Baldur’s Gate 3 you’ll get a buff called Awakened.
Lae’zel will disapprove but eventually accept the decision. However, the buff is only earned if you pass three consecutive skill checks of 12, 15, and 18. Charisma-based classes like Warlocks will get extra options to reduce the Difficulty Class of these checks. However, you should still make a quicksave before attempting this, as failure will result in your character receiving the debuff.
