A speedrunner managed to complete Baldur’s Gate 3 in just ten minutes by taking advantage of an exploit associated with Gale.

Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios’ latest RPG, is a massive game that will take you around 100 hours to complete. Despite this number, speedrunners have managed to finish it in less than an hour.

While this may seem impossible at first, it’s just one of the intended endings that you can get in BG3. However, one of the optional endings in Baldur’s Gate 3 that you can access by playing as Gale has players finishing the story in record time.

Mae, a speedrunner, set a new benchmark for Any% speedruns by finishing BG3 in just ten minutes and three seconds. They sped through Acts 1 and 2 and triggered one of Baldur’s Gate 3’s bad endings in record time.

It should be noted that the section below contains spoilers for Gale’s Origin story.

Baldur’s Gate 3 speedrunners often play as Gale.

Mae used Gale as an Origin character to reach the specific ending for the new record.

Gale, who you can also recruit in Baldur’s Gate 3, consumes magical items to survive. He was a naturally gifted wizard who attracted the attention of the goddess Mystra and eventually became her lover.

However, after a complicated chain of events, he ended up with a Netherese Destruction Orb in his chest. If you play as Gale or have him as a companion in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll eventually discover this.

Gale is offered a way out of his predicament at the start of Act 2. If he kills the Absolute with the Orb and sacrifices himself, Mystra will pardon him. This is obviously one of the bad endings to Baldur’s Gate 3 but if you’re looking to speedrun, it’s the best one for you. It skips over Act 3 completely, so you’ll finish the game much earlier.

Mae showed their record-setting Baldur’s Gate 3 speedrun in a YouTube video.

Gale has a unique condition that allows him to get an early ending.

Here’s what Mae did to achieve the speedrun record in Baldur’s Gate 3.

During character creation, they gave Gale a Strength stat of 17, as well as the Enhanced Leap, Ice Knife, Misty Step, and Feather Fall spells. The high Strength along with Enhanced Leap helps boost his movement speed. Meanwhile, the other three spells help him with the initial stages where he tries to avoid combat as much as possible.

Mae picks up Shadowheart as a companion for the Sanctuary spell which protects Gale during combat. After that, they just avoid all encounters and head toward the Mind Flayer Colony. They manage to do all this in less than 10 minutes. Finally, Mae chooses to blow up Gale, thereby finishing Baldur’s Gate 3 on a sour note.
