BG3 player accidentally discovers strongest NPC & it’s not who you think

You can see the stats of every Baldur’s Gate 3 NPC that you come across, and usually, what you see matches the kind of role they would play in the story. There is one NPC, though, who surprisingly has a stronger Constitution stat than anyone else in the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 NPCs are famous for being fully-fleshed out characters with rich backstories. It’s a part of the game that players have enjoyed because they add so much to the world and make it come to life.

What one player did not expect, though, was that a seemingly random NPC would have stats that could rival most bosses in the game

In fact, this NPC has a Constitution which is higher than both the Netherbrain and Ansur – two of the most difficult bosses in the game.

Avery Sonshal is a merchant who can be found at Felogyr’s Firework in the Lower City. When you first meet him, he is teaching children about Firework Safety. If you talk to him a little more, though, you find out that he has an Absolute Tadpole in his head.

He forms part of the larger Baldur’s Gate 3 quest “Investigate the Suspicious Toys,” and depending on your choices, can become hostile toward you.

This fight may be a lot more difficult that you originally thought, because Avery has 30 Constitution.

“For frame of reference, the Netherbrain has a CON of 22. Ansur’s is 23,” ‘jayelled’ posted on Reddit. “Avery Sonshal, human proprietor of Felogyr’s Fireworks, has the same Constitution score as a literal Tarrasque.”

This detail sent players down a rabbit hole in the comments, with some theorizing that his CON is particularly high so that fans couldn’t just walk in and blow up the place to kill him immediately.

One player, though, pointed out that this may be a bug. “It’s a bug, his actual score is 20. At level 9 with a d6 hit die, he would have a base max HP of 36 before CON. Take 81 minus 36 and you get 45. Divide that by his level, 9, and you get a CON mod of +5, i.e. a score of 20,” they explained.

Either way, a CON score of 20 is still quite high, and players heeded the warning that you shouldn’t take the fight with Avery too lightly.
