Larian Studios finally confirmed that Patch 7 is coming soon to Baldur’s Gate 3. It won’t only add features like an official Mod Toolkit and new Evil endings, but they have also teased that a “certain Bard” will be added to your party temporarily.

Players couldn’t help but be excited by the news. Even if the devs didn’t explicitly say that Alfira was the character being added, they described this new mysterious addition in the “Dark Urge Bug Fixes” section of their early patch notes.

If you’re wondering what this detail has to do with fans jumping to the conclusion that their beloved Bard will finally be part of their game, keep in mind that you’re about to read spoilers regarding Durge runs.

You’ll first meet Alfira during Act 1 at Emerald Grove, where she’ll ask for your help to compose a song. If you’re playing as The Dark Urge, she’ll visit your camp to ask if she can be part of your adventure. Unless you’ve knocked her out in the Emerald Grove, your character will kill her when she spends the night at your camp.

Baldur's Gate 3 Dark Urge
Your Durge character will “accidentally” murder Alfira if she stays at your camp.

Fans have figured out several strategies to stop this from happening, as the Bard has become one of the most beloved NPCs in the game. Larian Studios never patched any of these workarounds, seemingly recognizing players’ efforts to stop Alfira’s murder.

“The fact that they’re adding that as a feature at all makes me wonder if modders can make it permanent,” said a player about this detail when Baldur’s Gate 3 notes for Patch 7 dropped.

Some fans theorized that this could let modders add an Alfira romance arc, and even suggested that the devs might have hidden extra options for her to become a permanent companion.

Others are thinking that the fact that Alfira might be added as a temporary NPC is Larian’s way of encouraging modders to use the official Toolkit to finally include a more fleshed-out storyline for the Bard tieflieng.

While Larian Studios haven’t confirmed anything yet, players who get to play the Closed Beta will be able to discover the fate of the beloved character.
