Oathbreaker Paladin Baldur's Gate 3

In Baldur’s Gate 3, breaking your Oath when being a Paladin can lead to severe consequences and gameplay changes. Now, a player has revealed a hilariously way to become an Oathbreaker in BG3.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, Paladins are powerful divine empowered warriors who seek to uphold the tenants of their Oaths, to receive the blessings of the gods. In a game like BG3, this means, of course, a lot of room to play a goodie-two-shoes law-abiding citizen of the Sword Coast.

But in some cases, respecting the tenants of your Oath can be quite tricky. Sometimes, making the wrong decision can lead your character to become an Oathbreaker, a paladin that has forsworn their creed and lost their powers in the process.

But a Baldur’s Gate 3 player has found and shared the ‘dumbest’ way to break your Oath, and the community responded by sharing their own silly ways to become an Oathbreaker.

This happened to ‘Raptor1210,’ as they explained on a Reddit post where they addressed how a silly mistake can lead to becoming an Oathbreaker in Baldur’s Gate 3: “I broke my Paladin’s Oath in the stupidest way possible.” Watch out for spoilers ahead:

“It’s near the end of Act 2 and I’m trying to clear up my quest log before I move on to Act 3. I had found Arabella’s parents multiple days ago IRL and been reluctant to break her heart with the news. Talk to her, but get cold feet and tell her I’m still looking for them rather than the truth. I left the conversation and BAM, broken Oath of Devotion. I guess kids get no exceptions for harsh truths. Good thing Faerun has no Santa.”

Soon after, other users enthusiastically narrated their encounters with this incredibly lore-accurate mechanic. Like this Reddit user, who broke the law by closing a door: “I broke my oath by trying to CLOSE the jail door in the grove. I used Astarion to free Sazza, but the went back to my pali, miss clicked on the open door, and bam broken oath.” And another player answered: “Wow. That’s a whole new level of fanaticism.”

And another player shared: “I broke my oath by attacking the goblins inside the cathedral or whatever… Like, they’re goblins… and they’re attacking me.” Meanwhile, another user shared: “Someone broke theirs by clocking a comrade with a healing potion.”

And certainly, healing potions being thrown at your party are a silly way to break your Oath. Though pretty complicated, the Oath mechanics in Baldur’s Gate 3 are quite accurate and provide an extra incentive for good players to remain true to their paths.

But if you are hellbent on playing an Oathbreak Paladin, here’s a full guide on the powerful Warbreaker Multiclass build. And if you insist on playing on the side of the light, here’s the best Paladin build for you.
