How to defeat the Phase Spider Matriarch

To triumph over the Phase Spider Matriarch in Baldur’s Gate 3, we recommend obtaining the Spiderstep Boots, eliminating spider eggs, and strategically using the giant pit in the battle area.

Get the Spiderstep Boots

You can get the Spiderstep Boots from the Whispering Depths location with the coordinates: X:-510 Y:-400. This unique item offers protection against spider web attacks and allows you to navigate web-covered areas.

Destroy the Spider Eggs

Another crucial step before the battle with this boss in Baldur’s Gate 3 is dealing with its eggs, as destroying the spider’s eggs can enhance your chances of defeating the monster. Silently infiltrate the area, ideally with a Rogue, and attempt to eliminate the eggs.

There are three clusters of eggs that require your attention. Even if the battle commences and the boss’s health bar appears, continue to focus on destroying these eggs to reduce the number of spiders you’ll be up against.

Throwing Alchemist Fire over the egg batches will suffice, but in case you get discovered, this will trigger the fight immediately, so be cautious.

Use the Pit to your advantage

Throughout the battle, maintain a safe distance. Employing spells and ranged attacks is advisable. However, your efforts should also be directed at pushing the gigantic spider into the massive hole in the room’s center.

The strategy involves using attacks with knockback effects to drive the spider into the pit. Successfully accomplishing this results in an immediate victory. Positioning yourself properly is key, and using spells like Eldritch Blast and Thunder Wave could be a good way to push the Matriach toward the ledge.

Waiting until the boss is stepping on its spiderwebs to burn them to crisps and making it take fall damage is also a good strategy.

Keep in mind though, that if the Phase Spider Matriarch is pushed to the chasm far from the battleground, you’ll lose the loot it drops forever.
