Obscure BG3 Class Action is extremely useful but no one knows about it

Class Actions are special abilities afforded to you depending on which Class you pick in Baldur’s Gate 3, which means that many players tend to miss out on the strange things you can do with them – including making a climbable ice cube.

Shaping of the Ice is a Class Action that can be used by Way of the Four Elements Monks, and at first glance, it kind of looks like a random cube with not much use. It stays up for 10 turns, but the description only says “create a climbable ice cube.”

If you haven’t played as a Monk before, especially an Elements Monk, likely, you probably haven’t come across this niche Action, so you may be pretty confused by its use.

This was the experience of ‘gankfrombush,’ as they took to Reddit to ask what the point of this strange is. Many players didn’t actually know that this spell existed, given that it’s specific to a Monk subclass that isn’t used by many, but it turns out that there are more uses for it than you would initially think.

As one player explained, the cube is actually quite heavy, which means that you can drop it on an enemy for some damage. Alternatively, you can also use it as cover, throw it on a fire to put it out, or block doors with it.

Its best uses, though, are to get to high ground more easily and safely trigger traps from a distance.

High ground, especially for spellcasters, gives you a massive advantage in Baldur’s Gate 3. A lot of the time, and especially if you are ambushed, getting to high ground can take a few turns with limited movement. Using the cube can give you an easier pathway to high ground.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is also full of traps, and sometimes it’s not easy to get past them without triggering them. The cube then serves as a great alternative to your character’s health to trigger traps from a distance so you can pass the area safely without actually taking damage.

It’s one of the stranger spell-like actions in the game, but players will always find a way to make use of everything they have at their disposal whether it be saving all the Hag’s victims while still getting her Hair Boon or defeating a difficult boss with a simple trick.
