Emerald Grove is one of Baldur’s Gate 3‘s most iconic locations, and the site of quite a few important events and decisions that will affect your journey through the rest of the game.
Don’t be fooled, though, as there are a few characters, sidequests, and storylines that are also just there to add a little color and culture to the world. Sad Bear, known also as Ormn, is one of these characters, and here is where you can find him and why you should find him.

Where to find Sad Bear in Baldur’s Gate 3
Sad Bear can be found in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3 when exploring the beach near Emerald Grove.
Step by step, here is how to find the Sad Bear:
- Head to Emerald Grove.
- Walk toward the elevator past the Statue of Silvanus.
- Go past the elevator down the hill until you reach a small stretch of beach.
- Sad Bear should be here catching fish.
When you reach Emerald Grove for the first time, you will be directed to the Druid’s Circle in the middle of the area. If you head past the Statue of Silvanus, you will come across an elevator. Head past this elevator and down to the beach, where you will find Ormn.
What Sad Bear gives you in Baldur’s Gate 3
If you interact with Sad Bear in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will get 15 XP and a near constant supply of camp supplies.
There are three main rewards you can get from finding Sad Bear:
- 15 XP
- A good stock of camp supplies
- The Amulet of Silvanus
When you find Halsin and help him return to the Grove, you can tell Sad Bear. He will get really happy and you will finish an unmarked quest that will award you 15 XP.
Ormn will periodically throw fish on the ground as he catches them, which means you can pick them up and use them for long rests.
Otherwise, there is a nearby rock which you can lift to find the Amulet of Silvanus. This Amulet will give you the ability to cast Lesser Restoration free once every long rest. Lesser Restoration is a Level 2 spell that cures a creature from disease, poison, paralysis, or blindness.
Who is Sad Bear in Baldur’s Gate 3?
When Baldur’s Gate 3 players find Sad Bear, they will discover he is Halsin’s animal companion.
Halsin has been kidnapped by the Goblins when you first reach Emerald Grove, and you are tasked with saving him. Sad Bear got his name because he feels despondent about Halsin being gone.
