New information from industry insider Tom Henderson has revealed that Battlefield 2021’s weapon customization may return to pre-BF1, with a Warzone-like loadout system.

After DICE teased in April that the Battlefield 2021 reveal would be “soon,” fans have been awaiting any news on the latest entry to the shooter franchise. We now finally have confirmation that the game will officially be revealed on June 9, and hopefully, fan’s questions will be answered.

Industry insider Tom Henderson has reportedly been given a ton of information surrounding Battlefield 2021. He was first to describe the now-leaked trailer (which is rumored to be different from June 9’s reveal) and has also revealed juggernauts and robot dogs that could be making their way to the game.

Now, he has given us more detail on the upcoming weapon customization, which was arguably a massive draw for fans of the franchise in the past.

Warzone gunsmith system

Battlefield 3 and 4 were known for their deep weapon customization, allowing you to equip multiple unique attachments to your weapons. As Battlefield 1 was set in the First World War, these various attachments didn’t exist, so DICE offered players different weapon variants instead. Then, Battlefield V created a hybrid system, where you used specializations to change certain features of the weapon.

This system was widely considered a disappointment compared to the modern Battlefield games’ weapon customization. Modern Warfare (2019) and Warzone then set the bar for weapon customization with the Gunsmith system, which allows for five attachments to completely change a weapon’s aspects.

Now, it appears that Battlefield 2021 will feature a detailed weapon customization system similar to Call of Duty and previous Battlefields. New information from Tom Henderson revealed that the last he heard was there are “6-8 different changeable attachments per weapon. Similar to how CoD has been doing it in recent years.”

He then further clarified what this system would entail in a reply to another tweet. He said that weapons would receive:

  • 1 Sight
  • 1 Barrel
  • 1 Front Grip
  • 1 Foregrip
  • 1 Stock
  • 1 Magazine
  • Etc.

As with all leaks, there’s no guarantee this is true. Henderson could have been given incorrect information or plans inside DICE could have changed since he was informed. However, getting true weapon customization in Battlefield again is an exciting prospect.

Be sure to check out our guide on how to watch the official reveal on June 9, however, Henderson previously said that the teaser may leave more questions than answers.
