Battlefield 2042 devs reveal anti-cheat & post-launch support
Battlefield 2042’s Open Beta is nearly here, so devs DICE have confirmed which anti-cheat they’ll use to combat hackers and how players can report cheaters.
Cheating in multiplayer games has appeared to come to a head in 2020 and 2021. Activision has banned roughly 800,000 accounts and will be including a brand-new anti-cheat with Vanguard’s Warzone integration.
There were some worrying reports that cheat developers were already selling Battlefield 2042 cheats back in July, so the playerbase has been concerned.
But, DICE has sought to settle players’ minds by providing a ton of information about Battlefield 2042’s upcoming anti-cheat.
Battlefield 2042 anti-cheat
DICE confirmed in a new blog post that Battlefield 2042 will feature Easy Anti-Cheat, the same system as Apex Legends and Fortnite. This will appear in both the Open Beta and launch.
The devs explained that “we don’t tolerate cheating, and we have teams dedicated to preventing, identifying, and sanctioning cheaters.” Bans will also apply cross-platform, and cheaters will be “instantly disconnected mid-match” when banned.
They also confirmed that “combating modern cheating solutions is an ongoing commitment that doesn’t end at launch.” This means that they’ll continue to “invest in developing internal capabilities and technologies” to bolster their anti-cheat.
Battlefield 2042 using Easy Anti-Cheat was previously leaked by industry insider Tom Henderson when NDAs over the Technical Play Test were broken.
While players can expect the same level of anti-cheat as Apex Legends, there could be fewer because Battlefield 2042 isn’t free-to-play. When cheaters have to rebuy the game after getting banned, there’s a greater risk involved.
How to report cheaters in Battlefield 2042
In this post, the devs also described how the reporting process will work. It will be highly similar to most other games, such as Warzone, where you can report nefarious players mid-game.
DICE provided a comprehensive guide to reporting cheaters or otherwise toxic players in Battlefield 2042:
- From the Player and Squad List or Social Menu, select the player you wish to report
- Select Report
- Select the reason for your report
- Abusive Text Chat, Abusive Voice Chat, Cheating/Exploiting, Gameplay Sabotage, Offensive Player Name, or Harassment
- Select Send Report
- You can add an optional comment if necessary
If this doesn’t work in-game for whatever reason, you can visit EA Help and report the offender there.
