With the news that Battlefield 2042 won’t have a dedicated battle royale at launch, or possibly ever, Dr Disrespect has weighed in on the matter, shutting down people who don’t believe it needs one to compete with Warzone.

Make no mistake that even a few years after it hit the mainstream, battle royale continues to be as popular as it ever has been. Fortnite was the obvious breakout star when it came to the revolutionary concept, and it’s now into Season 7 and is arguably hotter than ever.

Call of Duty launched its own competition with Black Ops IIII’s Blackout mode and then went all-in with their free-to-play Warzone game. The game has been embraced by millions of players worldwide and is a big hit on streaming platforms with big names such as NICKMERCS and Aydan.

The Battlefield 2042 trailer recently launched to great fanfare, but it was learned that the game will launch with no campaign or battle royale mode. Herschel “Guy” Beahm IV AKA Dr Disrespect has given his say on why he feels Battlefield needs a battle royale mode.

On the Battlefield 2042 trailer, many fans made it known that they were disinterested in a battle royale mode and believe that the franchise excels in its purely focused multiplayer component.

“Are you guys idiots? BR is just getting started, so much you can do, so many different engines, so many different fictions, and games and designs. The hell are you guys talking about? These are the same people that are trapped in a box,” Dr Disrespect said.

The notion of battle royale being burnt out is probably a common misconception as Fortnite and Warzone are still regularly pumping big numbers for live streams and tournaments.

Doc also went on to say, “I want the multiplayer but I also want BR too, especially on that engine – woo.”

Given how unfavorably Battlefield V’s battle royale, Firestorm, fared, it’s fair to assume that EA is just being a bit cautious about going down that road again.

It does make sense for the company to deliver its bread and butter – high-quality, action-packed, large-scale warfare over a ginormous map. We’ll have to wait and see if battle royale is added in the future.
