UPDATE: Activision has updated to reveal that for the multiplayer mode, the game will run between 30 to 60FPS, but for Shadows of Evil Zombies, the game will run at 30FPS.

The multiplayer mode on PS3 and Xbox 360 will scale between 30- 60 FPS, while the frame rate in Zombies mode is 30 FPS.

Developer Beenox, speaking to Develop-Online, has stated that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on PS3 and Xbox 360 will run at 30 frames per second.

“I’d say that we tried to hit that target [60fps],” Beenox Creative Director Thomas Wilson said. “It becomes harder when you’re working on current gen platforms.”

“We’re basically looking more at something like 30fps. But still, the experience is very enjoyable, otherwise it’s not Call of Duty.”

Activision announced earlier that the game would not have a campaign mode on last-gen. Wilson says the complexity of the campaign made it difficult to bring it to last-gen, and they had to remove other features as well.

“What we do is we basically, step by step, reduce the polycounts on each asset, reduce the amount of memory that each effects will take, and then eventually we make sure that we maintain that core experience intact,” he said.
“The challenge really is to make that fit in memory, make sure that the experience is good and that you have a great frame rate. So there’s always a big challenge in doing that because of course the main developer will try to make the most kick-ass new-gen game possible. We don’t want them to think about constraints, we want them to go out there and have fun.”

Beenox Team is working with independent developer Mercenary Technology to bring Black Ops 3 to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Black Ops 3 on PS3 and Xbox 360 retails for $49.99 and includes multiplayer and zombies mode only. However, there are certain MP features – like the Paint Shop and eSports features – that are not available.

Treyarch is developing the title exclusively for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game runs at 1080p/60FPS on PS4, 4K (or more depending upon configuration)/60FPS (or higher based upon configuration) on PC, and to-be-announced resolution/60FPS on Xbox One.
