Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War boasts an extensive array of high-class guns to eradicate zombies. Here are the absolute best weapons to cause armageddon in the popular Outbreak mode.
The tried and tested Zombies formula has been thrown out of the window in Black Ops Cold War thanks to the Season 2 addition of Outbreak. The exciting game mode is Treyarch’s newest take on the long-running success story and it radically deviates from anything we’ve seen before.
Outbreak is a complete tonal shift away from isolated survival to full-on exploration. It’s hard to survive though if you’re not equipped with a capable killing machine that can be turned into an unstoppable force.
This quick guide will highlight a few of the absolute best weapons to allow you to survive many rounds in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreak mode.
Gallo-SA12 / H-NGM-N
The Gallo SA12 is the ultimate battering ram that can quell the danger in any situation and take down bigger and stronger enemies with only a few punches of its mean 12-Gauge punches. As a semi-auto Shotgun, the Gallo SA12 can quickly reel off a series of powerful blasts with enough Stopping Power to grant yourself some freedom.
A fully Pack-a-Punched version essentially gives you a Machine Gun tank cannon that can empty its even bigger clip into anything, ending things quickly.
Whether it’s Hordes, Elites, Orda, there’s simply not much that can stop the H-NGM-N.
Stoner 63 / Psychotropic Thunder
If you need a bit more in reserve in case you’re dealt a substantial amount of zombies, trying to Exfil for instance, then the Stoner 63 is a great option.
It already boasts a meaty clip size, and that’s before you add any attachments to it. But once you’ve managed to upgrade the Stoner 63 to its final form, then you begin to understand its true power.
Its Psychotropic Thunder transformation turns it into an absolute melt machine with incredible accuracy and power. Add to this a mouthwatering clip, and Psychotropic Thunder becomes an unstoppable gun in Cold War Outbreak.
Krig-6 / Blitzkrig 99
Anyone who’s used the Krig 6 in Black Ops Cold War’s online multiplayer portion of the game will know how ridiculous this gun actually is. An absolute laser machine that can deliver great damage and accuracy with the right gear on it.
In Zombies, it can be upgraded to the Blitzkrig and become an amalgamation of the Stoner and Gallo. Its clip size isn’t as large as the Stoner and its damage doesn’t reach the heights of the Gallo, but it definitely finds a perfect balance of the two. If you feel you need a second gun to serve as a backup, then the Krig 6 is that option.
M16 / Skullsplitter
A popular choice for many players is the tried and trusted M16 Burst Rifle. A gun that’s gain a huge following since it decided to ruin many people in Call of Duty 4.
We get why people enjoying using it in Zombies as upgrading its weapon class, and the right attachments make it a quick-firing juggernaut. That can end multiple enemies with each barrage of M16 fire.
Naturally, turn it into the Skullspitter, and it becomes a fearsome, relentless gun that can tear groups of Zombies to shreds.
Ray Gun / Porter’s X2 Ray Gun
Our final entry is a bit of a cheat one, but you can’t go wrong with a Ray Gun can you? The technology fueling this legendary gun forever remains a mystery, but who cares.
If you’re lucky enough to pull a Ray Gun from the Mystery Box or another means, then it’s game over for most zombies, even without upgrades. If you have the resources to upgrade it to its final form, the Porter’s X2 Ray Gun, then you really should be able to go as far as you want. It literally has everything you could want from a super-duper overpowered exterminator.
If you can get your hands on one or more of the above, then your experience with Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreak mode is going to be a pleasant one.
Make sure you’re also putting together the best loadout possible for Cold War Outbreak Zombies too!

Best LAPA loadout for CoD: Cold War Season 6
The LAPA is the final SMG to arrive in Black Ops Cold War and the here’s how to make the best Season 6 loadout with attachments and Perks.
The LAPA SMG has been added in Cold War Season 6 and looks to send Treyarch’s shooter off in style. So to celebrate it, here’s the best LAPA loadout you can put together, attachments, and Perks, and all.
- Best Cold War LAPA loadout attachments
- Best Perks to run with the LAPA in Cold War Season 6
- How to unlock the LAPA in Cold War Season 6
- Best alternatives to the LAPA in Cold War Season 6
Best Cold War LAPA loadout attachments
- Optic: Microflex LED
- Muzzle: Agency Suppressor
- Barrel: 10.2″ Ranger
- Underbarrel: Field Agent Grip
- Magazine: Vandal Speed Loader
To make a great LAPA SMG loadout, we begin with a simple Microflex LED optic to improve its visual cleanliness.
The Agency Suppressor is a tried and trusted attachment that emphasizes vertical recoil reduction and aids concealment. Whereas the 10.2″ Ranger barrel provides some very welcome range and bullet velocity.
To round this loadout off, we’ve opted for the ever-popular Field Agent Grip for a massive recoil boost and the Vandal Speed Loader sacrifices a tiny bit of ADS speed for more starting ammo and greatly reduced reload speeds.
Best Perks to run with the LAPA in Cold War Season 6
- Perk 1: Flak Jacket / Tactical Mask
- Perk 2: Scavenger / Assassin
- Perk 3: Ghost / Ninja
You only need five attachments for the LAPA SMG in Cold War, meaning Perk Greed can be selected to allow an extra Perk in each slot.
Flak Jacket is immensely useful for overcoming the large number of explosives and Scorestreaks you’ll face in each match of Cold War. Whereas the Tactical Mask is vital to surviving the large number of Gas Mines that will also be placed.
With the LAPA being an SMG, there’s always the chance you’ll munch your way through clips of ammo, so Scavenger will keep your ammo count healthy. Assassin is a nice way of earning bonus points during games and will help you to earn some of the game’s higher Scorestreaks.
Our last two Perks are Ghost, which will hide you from Spy Planes, and Ninja will allow you to run more quietly, freeing you up in a way.
How to unlock the LAPA in Cold War Season 6

How to open Scare Packages in Black Ops Cold War multiplayer & Zombies
One of The Haunting challenges players with opening a Scare Package in Black Ops Cold War, here’s how to do it in multiplayer and Zombies.
Scare Packages have dropped into Black Ops Cold War’s The Haunting event, and players are tasked with opening one of these spooky supply drops for a challenge. Here’s where you can find them in Cold War multiplayer and Zombies.
Among the new skins and maps is a host of creepy challenges to be completed, one of which asks players to open an aptly named Scare Package in multiplayer or Zombies.
Here’s our guide to completing this challenge in both modes.
How to open Scare Packages in multiplayer
Scare Packages come as reskinned versions of the normal Care Packages called in as a Scorestreak. You’ll be able to them apart thanks to their orange color and the Halloweeny music that plays when the helicopters drop it off.
Coming across Scare Packages in multiplayer is probably the trickier method of the two because devs have made it a game of chance.
The problem is that not every Care Package comes as a Scare Package, so you will have to keep getting scorestreaks to have a chance of one dropping.
There’s also the issue that other players could swoop in and steal your Scare Package after it lands, so make sure you’re in a safe space when you call it in.
How to open Scare Packages on Zombies
To open a Scare Package in Zombies, instead of players calling them in they will spawn in a random location on the map every five rounds.
It’s far more straightforward here because you don’t have to compete with other players but just a hoard of AI Zombies.
Unfortunately, they won’t show up on your mini-map, but thanks to their bright color you shouldn’t have too much trouble tracking them down.
We recommend saving one Zombie at the end of the round so you can freely explore the map without worrying about being eaten alive.
That was our guide on how to open Scare Packages in Black Ops Cold War multiplayer and Zombies.
