Best Halo Infinite FOV settings

Halo Infinite is the first iteration of the franchise to include an FOV slider on consoles, giving players more control over how their game looks and feels. The perfect field of view can give you a major advantage, and we’ve got the best settings for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

While Warzone players are still waiting for the highly-anticipated feature, Halo Infinite gives players the option to change their field of view, or FOV. This allows players to change how much they can see in front of them, expanding their peripheral view.

Having the best Halo Infinite settings, regardless of whether you’re on PC or Xbox, can give you a major advantage over opponents, and tweaking your FOV slider can let you see much more than your opponents.

With Halo Infinite’s multiplayer now here after its surprise release, here are the best FOV settings for Halo Infinite on both Xbox consoles and PC.

What is a FOV Slider?

FOV stands for ‘Field of View,’ and the slider allows players to change their field of view on the screen to see more of their surroundings. This would let you see more of what is on either side of the direction your character is facing, increasing your peripheral view.

A higher FOV is generally regarded as more effective than a lower, as you can spot enemies at the edge of your screen that would usually be cut off. It also gives an optical illusion that you’re moving faster, which some players like.

In Halo Infinite, the default FOV is set to 78 and can be pushed all the way up to 120.

How to change FOV in Halo Infinite

Whether you play Halo Infinite on Xbox One, Series X|S, or PC, you can change your FOV. To do this, you simply need to load up the game’s settings and adjust to slider to suit your preference.

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Launch Halo Infinite
  2. Open up ‘Settings’
  3. Select the ‘Video’ tab
  4. Change the Field of View slider to suit your preference

Best FOV for Halo Infinite on Xbox One & Series X|S

While having a high FOV can be a significant improvement, it also comes with its own drawbacks.

The main downside to having a high FOV is performance. Cranking your FOV to max will force the game to display much more information on-screen, which will be taxing on your system. It’s all about striking a balance – are you willing to sacrifice frame rate for a higher FOV?

If you’re playing Halo Infinite on the original Xbox One, we recommend a FOV of 90-100. The older console isn’t as powerful as its replacement and may struggle to maintain high framerates if you push it higher than 100.

The Xbox Series X and S are significantly more powerful though, so you should be able to run Halo Infinite at 110-120 FOV comfortably.

Best FOV for Halo Infinite on PC

Unlike the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, there’s no way to give a definite recommendation.

If you’re running an NVIDIA RTX 20 or 30 Series GPU (or equivalent), you should have no trouble cranking the FOV all the way to max. Halo Infinite’s PC requirements aren’t too demanding, but older systems will need to strike a balance between FOV and frames.

Being conscious of hardware, here’s the recommended FOV for PC players:

  • NVIDIA GTX 960 (minimum GPU): 80 FOV
  • NVIDIA GTX 10 Series (recommended GPU): 95-105 FOV
  • NVIDIA RTX 20 & 30 Series: 110-120 FOV

Best FOV for Halo Infinite on controller

As Halo has long been a console game, the vast majority of players will choose to game on a controller – it’ll be what feels natural.

However, aim assist comes into play when choosing your FOV. When cranking your FOV to fit more information on-screen, it will actually shrink everything to fit more. This will make far-off player models considerably smaller, and therefore more difficult to hit.

Skilled players may not have a problem with this, but for the average player, we recommend setting your FOV anywhere between 100-110. Here, you’ll still get that extra spatial awareness without the targets shrinking too much.

Best FOV for Halo Infinite on mouse and keyboard

A large chunk of PC players will likely play Halo Infinite on a mouse and keyboard. It’s a well-known fact that a mouse offers finer aim control than a controller with aim assist, so if you’re a skilled marksman, you should have no trouble making those micro-adjustments with a high FOV.

If you’re playing Halo Infinite on a mouse and keyboard, we recommend a FOV of around 110, and you can adjust it either way to suit your preference.

Bear in mind that these are the recommended settings, and you’ll be able to find your ideal settings by experimenting.
