Best Perks in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War

The best Perks to suit your playstyle in Cold War.

Published

on

Black Ops Cold War introduces a mix of classic Perks along with some brand new additions.

Players can equip three Perks from set categories to their loadout. These offer various bonuses to your character in-game without any down-side.

Here are the Perks you should be running in Black Ops Cold War, and some tips on how they’ll match your playstyle.

Perk Category 1

Flak Jacket

If you are a player who loves jumping on the objectives, capturing flags, and defending hardpoints, lethal equipment is your worst enemy. While on an objective, there are only so many places you can be. This makes you especially susceptible to grenades and rockets. To counter this, Flak Jacket will allow you to survive a hit from a grenade or rocket, allowing you to continue to defend the point.

Tactical Mask

If you are a player who likes to run around the map and rush enemies, Tactical Mask is the perfect Perk for you. Getting hit by a Flashbang or, especially, a Stun Grenade will stop you in your tracks and leave you defenseless. Tactical Mask maximizes your resistance to Flashbangs and Stun Grenades, while also making you immune to Gas Grenades.

Perk Category 2

Scavenger

When racking up a high killstreak, you’ll start to notice your ammo depleting. This puts you in an awkward position where you have to either switch to your secondary or pick up a dropped weapon from the ground. Also, new to Cold War, there are some resupply stations around the map, but they are often watched.

With the return of the Gunsmith system, you can build your weapon exactly how you want it and another weapon may not suit your playstyle. With the Scavenger Perk equipped, running over a dead body will refill your ammunition. If you’re moving around the map, you can hold onto your own weapon confident in the knowledge you won’t run out of ammo.

Quartermaster

Lethal and tactical equipment are especially powerful in Black Ops Cold War. Clearing a room with a well-thrown Stun Grenade will give you a huge advantage when you rush. The problem is that you only get one use per life, so when you’re racking up a high killstreak, you’ll find yourself in situations were another piece of equipment would be vital.

The Quartermaster Perk allows your equipment to recharge over 25 seconds. Throw a grenade and 25 seconds later, you have another. Be strategic in when to use your equipment and you’ll find a lot of use in this Perk.

Perk Category 3

Ghost

With the new Scorestreak system, almost every player will acquire a low-end Scorestreak over the course of the match. One of the most common Scorestreaks which you will see called in is the Spy Plane.

When this is called in, all enemy players will be revealed on the mini-map. This makes pulling off flanks or defending spots especially difficult. With Ghost equipped, while moving, operating a Scorestreak, or using a bomb, you will not appear on enemies mini-maps.

Ninja

If you’re more the run-and-gun type, Ninja is the Perk for you. Treyarch has worked hard on audio improvements for Cold War, meaning footstep audio is easier to detect. While wearing headphones, it’s easy to pinpoint the direction an enemy is coming from by their footsteps. This makes rushing more difficult. Without completely silencing your movement, Ninja quietens your footsteps when sprinting, hides you from Field Mics, and lessens your Operators in-game callouts.

Experiment with the wide variety of Perks in Black Ops Cold War to find your playstyle, but you can’t go wrong with these classic additions.

Lightweight and compact, the QBZ 83 is one of Cold War Season 4’s most understated weapons with the right loadout & attachments.

Player using the QBZ 83 in Cold War

Season 4 of Black Ops Cold War has seen a number of weapons come to the forefront, and with the right attachments and perks, the QBZ-83 Assault Rifle can potentially hold its own.

Throughout the lifespan of Cold War, incredible weapons like the XM4, MP5, and AK-74u have dominated the meta, with many opting to use them over any other gun in the game.

Other guns have come into the fold to further broaden horizons with the outrageously powerful LC10 making a strong case for being the meta gun. With the right loadout and class setup, the QBZ can be the perfect gun for players looking to take on enemies at range, without sacrificing the ability to move around the map at speed.

Here’s everything you need to turn the QBZ-83 into a devasting weapon in your arsenal.

Best Cold War Season 4 QBZ-83 attachments

  • Muzzle: Muzzle Brake 5.56
  • Barrel: 13.7″ Cavalry Lancer
  • Underbarrel: Foregrip
  • Handle: Quickdraw Handle
  • Stock: Tactical Stock

Pairing the Muzzle Brake 5.56 with the Foregrip is important for control, as this will reduce both the horizontal and vertical recoil and make it much easier to hit your shots.

With the QBZ-83 acting as a mobile AR, the Quickdraw Handle will be the perfect accessory to help you aim down sights quickly while you’re rotating around the map.

Finally, once you’ve found your target and started to fire, you’ll want to be able to keep your crosshairs on your enemy while you shoot. This is where the Tactical Stock comes in, as it improves the stability of the weapon.

Best perks to use with Cold War Season 4’s QBZ-83

Tactical Mask perk
  • Perk 1: Tactical Mask
  • Perk 2: Scavenger
  • Perk 3: Ghost

Tactical Mask is a must in Black Ops Cold War, and with the QBZ-83 allowing you to move around the map faster than other Assault Rifle players, you’ll likely find yourself in the middle of stuns and flashes fairly regularly.

Scavenger is useful to keep your ammo replenished as the QBZ-83 has one of the faster rates of fire in its class, while Ghost will keep you hidden from enemies’ pesky UAVs.

How to unlock the QBZ-83 in Cold War Season 4

If you want to have a go with the QBZ-83, then you’ll simply need to reach Level 31, and it will become yours to equip.

Once you’ve done that, then you can go about unlocking every single attachment for it to equip the right ones for the job.

Best alternatives to Cold War’s QBZ-83 SMG

If you’ve experimented and feel like the QBZ-83 isn’t for you after all, then there are perfectly acceptable replacements should you need them.

The Swiss K31 is fun for quickscoping, the KSP 45 is a weapon reborn in Cold War, and the Krig 6 remains a veritable destroyer of CoD lobbies.

That’s the QBZ-83 sorted for you in Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer. Also, see our tier list of every weapon in Black Ops Cold War to see where we rank them all, and if you enjoy battle royale, then check out our ranking of every Warzone weapon.

JGOD explains which Warzone barrels you should be using for Cold War Assault Rifles

Call of Duty YouTuber JGOD has delved into the different Warzone barrel options for Cold War ARs and explains which ones you should be using.

Each weapon in Call of Duty: Warzone has many different barrels to apply, and CoD guru JGOD has specifically targeted the Cold War Assault Rifles and explained which barrels are better suited.

Creating a loadout and picking the right attachments for your weapon can sometimes be an arduous chore. You immediately doubt your selections, second-guess the choices you’ve made, and it creates a negative bubble for each match of Warzone you use it and don’t win your 1v1s.

Barrels are probably the most selected attachment for every weapon as their effects are significant. Cold War‘s Assault Rifles have had a big bearing on the way Warzone plays and its meta, and JGOD has picked the best barrels and explained which ones work best.

Going through the different barrels, JGOD believes that two barrels are head and shoulders above the rest – the 18.7″ Ranger and the 18.5″ Task Force.

He refers to the Ranger as “barrel 4” and the Task Force as “barrel 6.” He says: “Essentially, the choice, almost always, for weapons that are long-range comes down to whether or not you want to use the fourth barrel or the sixth barrel.”

To fully demonstrate the different effects of each, JGOD set foot into Warzone’s currently broken Plunder mode to test them all.

He used the good ol’ garage doors to show side-by-side examples of barrel 4 and barrel 6 on each gun. Through methodical testing, we saw the difference between the barrels on the Krig, QBZ, XM4, AK-47, FFAR, Groza, FARA, and C58.

JGOD comparing AR barrels in Warzone

These were JGOD’s favored barrels for each gun:

  • Krig 6: Barrel 4
  • QBZ-83: Barrel 6
  • XM4: Barrel 6
  • AK-47: Either
  • FFAR-1: Either
  • Groza: Barrel 6
  • FARA 83: Barrel 6
  • C58: Either

It’s quite obvious that the 18.5″ Task Force is the preferred barrel for these weapons, and for any where it’s too close to call, you might be better off conducting your own tests to see which feels better.

With Warzone Season 4 very much giving players a healthy amount of balanced Assault Rifles to choose from, it might be well worth trying out some of the above barrels.

Best AK-47 loadout for CoD: Cold War Season 4

The AK-47 Assault Rifle is extremely powerful in Cold War Season 4, and these are the attachments and perks to make the perfect loadout.

cod cold war ak-47

As with every Call of Duty game, the AK-47 is a tank of an Assault Rifle with some interesting but manageable recoil. Here is how you can make the best Cold War AK-47 loadout in Season 4.

In a game largely defined by the strength of its SMGs such as the PPSH-41 and LC10, Cold War does actually boast some quality Assault Rifles with a quick time-to-kill. You’ll need some awesome firepower in Season 4.

The firepower of the AK-47 has never been in question and it became even stronger in Cold War Season 3’s Reloaded update. Now in Season 4, the AK remains one of the best choices available, and our AK-47 loadout will see to the choppy recoil and make the gun a great addition to your repertoire.

Best AK-47 attachments for Cold War Season 4

  • Optic: Axial Arms 3x
  • Muzzle: Suppressor
  • Underbarrel: Spetsnaz Grip
  • Magazine: 40 Rnd
  • Handle: GRU Elastic Wrap

Given how potent the AK-47 is on its own in Black Ops Cold War, we think you’ll only need five attachments, so we would recommend selecting Perk Greed as a Wildcard.

The Axial Arms 3x scope offers brilliant zoom and is still operational at all ranges, increasing its deadliness. Buffs in Warzone Season 4 reduced the Suppressors range penalty, so it’s well worth using on your AK-47.

One of the biggest things we’re trying to secure for the AK is its accuracy and recoil, and the Spetsnaz Grip is one of the biggest ways to lock it down. The GRU Elastic Wrap offers a healthy boost to ADS to improve its speed and mobility, and the 40 Rnd mag allows us some spare shots.

Best perks to run with the AK-47 in Cold War Season 4

cod cold war ghost perk
  • Perk 1: Forward Intel & Flak Jacket
  • Perk 2: Assassin & Gearhead
  • Perk 3: Ghost & Gung-Ho

With Perk Greed, you have six options to choose from. The AK-47 is strong at all distances, so you won’t need to run around as much, especially with the Axial Arms 3x scope.

So Forward Intel will show even more of the map, benefitting the scope, and Flak Jacket provides the usual immunity to explosives – a regular occurrence in Cold War.

Assassin is awesome for extra points, and Quartermaster lets you use more equipment to stop people sneaking up on you.

Ghost is a universally loved perk that hides you from radar, and Gung-Ho is useful for quick weapon switching if your ammo runs dry.

How to unlock the AK-47 in Cold War

cod cold war assault rifle ak-47

The AK-47 hasn’t been added mid-game like the FARA or the monstrous Streetsweeper, so the unlock requirements are easy.

Simply reach Level 7 and you’ll be using be brandishing this classic weapon in no time at all.

Best alternatives

If you feel that the AK-47 isn’t for you, give our LC10 loadout a try to see if mobility and an exhilarating rate of fire are for you.

Or, you could use the ever-powerful Krig 6 to simply dominate enemies over range.
