Big changes to Health System in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Treyarch has announced big changes to the health system in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer, changes that have never been done before in Call of Duty’s history.

The first big change: players now have 150 health versus the standard 100 health. This allows the team at Treyarch to better tune the different weapons in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to cater to the playstyle people want. With this being said, the time to kill does increase over previous Call of Duty games but not by much. Headshots play a big factor in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 with this new health change.

The second big change to the health system: health regeneration is not automatic anymore. In every Call of Duty game so far, players’ health would regenerate automatically once injured in action in multiplayer. In Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, that’s gone. Players will have to manually regenerate their health. If you are injured, it’s on you to press L1 (on PS4) to use a health pack to regenerate back to 150 health. Once you use the health regeneration, there’s a time delay for when you can use it again. This completely changes how you play Call of Duty as you now have to make a smarter decision in play styles whether to keep pushing forward or stop and regenerate health before moving forward. Treyarch’s aim is to create a more tactical game where every decision a player makes is important.

If you are regenerating health and get shot, the health regeneration stops. There is an indication on the bottom center of the HUD that shows when your health regeneration is ready to use. On, PS4 players have to press L1 to use the health regeneration pack. Once used, you are back to 150 health. There is a delay once you use it before you can use it again.

This is a fundamental change to Call of Duty. Players will have to adapt to the new playstyle and pace of the game.
