Bizarre Apex Legends glitch turns Caustic into a helicopter

A tense game of Apex was heading to its conclusion when someone playing as Caustic glitched and did their best impression of a helicopter.

One game of Apex Legends culminated in a bizarre series of events that caused someone’s Caustic to glitch and become a human helicopter.

Apex Legends has generally been a solid game in terms of technical performance with few big glitches to speak of. The battle royale game has managed to retain its large player base by adding new maps, weapons, and characters with every passing season.

However, one of its unlockable stalwarts encountered a rather peculiar bug that occurred towards the crucial final moments of a game.

Apex Legends Caustic helicopter glitch

Caustic excels in pacifying enemies using more defense-minded attacks and equipment. His gas and grenades make him slower and more reserved in comparison to Horizon for example.

Reddit user Anyzarus was more than happy to get in up close, nitty gritty gunfights in a clip he posted on the Apex Legends subreddit. In it, the player can be seen performing a finisher on one of the last remaining opponents in their match, as the edged closer and closer to the all-important victory.

In a strange twist though, it appears as though the kill wasn’t confirmed. Although it’s very difficult to tell because after what appears to be the end of the animation, Caustic becomes a literal cyclone. It seems that the enemy is the only one left, yet the game is noticeably carrying on as you can see the Safe Zone creeping in until it engulfs them.

But the game ends shortly after with our player, and teammate, being declared the winners. We can only presume that the storm registered with the downed player and killed them almost instantly.

The footage gets funnier still as we also get to see the helicopter impersonation from his teammate’s perspective. Caustic is spinning around endlessly in circles whilst the victim seems to be lodged in a particularly uncomfortable place.

The amusing glitch thankfully didn’t impede the team too much and they rightfully claimed their win.

We can’t really say what caused it and we haven’t heard about this bug happening anywhere else. As usual, if this is something that is repeated in the future, then further action may be taken by Respawn.

Apex Legends dev confirms plans to buff L_STAR in Season 9

Respawn Entertainment are planning some major improvements for the L-STAR weapon in Apex Legends Season 9.

L-Star will be changed in Apex Legends Season 9

In response to the less-than stellar reception of the L-STAR Energy LMG in Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment are looking to buff the weapon for the upcoming Season 9.

The L-STAR is an Energy LMG in Apex Legends that functions with an ‘overload’ mechanic. This means that rather than having a standard magazine, it makes use of weapon stacks at the cost of having to cool the weapon down after a bit.

While this makes the weapon incredibly useful during the early parts of the match, many players often opt to switch to another weapon afterwards. As a result, Respawn Entertainment have decided to work on the gun for Season 9.

L-STAR in Apex Legends

Apex Legends players have been petitioning to give the L-STAR some base ammo. This is because if someone steals your ammo stacks, then you’ll be left completely defenseless in the midst of battle.

While Respawn aren’t currently planning to add that, they’ve reassured fans that they’re working on some major L-STAR changes for Season 9, and these will arrive with the new content in the Legacy update.

“It’s not a problem every time because guns have their ammo spawn next to them, but it definitely is too common that you get one with 0 ammo and can’t use it,” wrote developer David Bocek.

L-STAR in Apex Legends

Bocek feels that adding flat ammo for the weapon will result in players abusing it to farm energy ammo. So instead, they have a different solution planned that “has some weirdness” and “has the potential for lots of bugs.”

While he didn’t give too much detail about what this big change will be, he made it clear that they’ve already got some initial work done, but it wasn’t ready for the next season launch.

The L-STAR has been buffed recently as well. Hopefully, the new changes will get rid of the problems plaguing the weapon.

Apex Legends devs tease new Olympus and World’s Edge locations

Respawn Entertainment have dropped another batch of videos showing potential map locations for Olympus and World’s Edge in Apex Legends Season 9: Legacy.

Apex Legends Olympus Worlds Edge changes

Apex Legends developers have been teasing Season 9 over on their Instagram account through glitchy videos, which could potentially show off some new map locations for Olympus and Worlds Edge.

Over the past week, Respawn Entertainment has been hard a work teasing and revealing the upcoming Season 9 entitled Legacy.

In the latest videos, it seems map changes for Olympus have been teased, as well as potentially unexpected changes to Apex Legend’s heavily missed map, World’s Edge, which was left out for Season 8.

Apex Legends Olympus Phase Runner

Since the latest Stories from the Outlands short and reveal of the upcoming Apex Legend, Valkyrie, Respawn Entertainment has been teasing the new content coming in Legacy.

The latest videos seem to show off some new map changes in Apex Legends. However, the locations are very confusing. Dataminer @GarretLeaks has been analyzing the videos and has some interesting insight into what the videos are showing.

GarretLeaks first thought these three videos showed “new locations for Olympus,” as he edited the videos to get clear, individual frame images.

The first image shows an underground, tunnel-like setting with the overgrown plants teased in the official Infested Olympus reveal over on the Apex Legends website. Originally, Garret had believed this to be a new location in Olympus.

However, after deeper analysis and help from the community, it is now suspected that we could be seeing a double map change, with the image looking very similar to the tunnel underneath Train Yard on World’s Edge.

This seems even more possible with the second image, as the mountains in the background look very similar to the terrain and surroundings in World’s Edge, not Olympus. One fan has a theory that the image is of a Phase Runner like the one on Olympus, and perhaps Hammond Robotics has decided to build one on World’s Edge.

Lastly, the final image is very familiar as it seems to be the same location teased in the 100 million players video posted by Apex Legends Twitter last week. Many have imagined this location to replace Hammond Labs in the middle of the Olympus map, however more recently, many believe it could actually be a location for the new 3v3 mode, Arena.

If these videos were teasing a double map change for Olympus and World’s Edge, it would definitely surprise players, as this is information that reliable Apex Legends dataminers have missed.

Whatever happens to these maps, make sure you stay tuned on Charlie INTEL for all your Apex Legends news. For more, why not check out our article on the next-gen version of Apex.

When will the next-gen version of Apex Legends be available?

Apex Legends has been out for a while now, and players are yet to see a next-gen optimization of the game, so when will we see it?

Published

apex legends next-gen

Apex Legends had its two-year anniversary this year, as well as celebrating 100 million players. Although the game is doing extremely well and is constantly growing, with the release of next generation consoles, when will we be seeing an upgraded version of the free-to-play battle royale?

Apex Legends expanded its player base further than ever in 2020 and 2021, releasing on Steam and Nintendo Switch. Apex Legends developers, Respawn Entertainment, even announced their port for mobile devices recently, revealing that we could be seeing an Apex Legends mobile beta in “Spring 2021.”

This begs the question, especially with the release of next-gen consoles this year, when will we be seeing an optimized Apex Legends game for PS5 and Xbox Series X?

Apex Legends all platforms

Currently, players with a next-gen console can enjoy the last-gen versions of the game, with minor frame rate increase/stability in 1440p. Players with next-gen consoles can of course also experience the same cross-platform capabilities as the previous generation, allowing them to play with all platforms.

However, without a truly optimized version of Apex Legends, we are yet to see the real graphical and performance potentially Apex Legends can provide on next-gen consoles.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X both have the hardware capable of 4k gaming at 120Hz video output. This ultimately allows next-gen consoles to start competing with PC gaming which, depending on the hardware, can run Apex Legends at an even higher frame rate of over 144Hz at 4k resolution.

When can we expect the next-gen version of Apex Legends?

Respawn Entertainment have confirmed over on Reddit during a Season 8 AMA (ask me anything) that the developers will be implementing “more formal enhancements” for next-gen consoles this year.

Apart from frame rate, the other enhancements remain a mystery, with the developers also stating that cross-progression across platforms is “still a ways off,” but remains on their list of improvements.

One of these enhancements the developers mentioned was higher frame rates on next-gen. Steve Ferreira, Respawn’s Team Director, stated that the goal is for Apex Legends to reach a smooth 120 FPS on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Perhaps some of these enhancements we will be seeing could include optimizing Apex Legends for the PS5’s Dual Sense, which takes advantage of the haptic feedback the next-gen console introduced.

Further, maybe Apex Legends will optimize its audio for PlayStation’s 3D audio function, which would greatly increase the dimension and quality of sound in the game. However these enhancements for next-gen consoles will come, there’s no doubt they will receive a warm welcome from the community.

While there has not been an official announcement by Respawn Entertainment for a next-gen release date, it does seem that they are working on it and placing it on the top of their priority list.

For those looking for even more improvements, hopefully, Respawn will officially announce something soon for release in 2021. For more on Apex Legends, stay tuned on Charlie INTEL and check out our article on 3 quality-of-life changes that would make Apex better on console.
