Black Ops 2 ‘Apocalypse’ DLC announced; available August 27th on Xbox 360

Activision and Treyarch have officially announced the fourth and final DLC pack for Black Ops 2 called Apocalypse. This pack will be available August 27th on Xbox 360 for 1200 MSP or free as part of the Season Pass.

“Apocalypse is Treyarch’s grand finale to Call of Duty: Black Ops II,” said Treyarch Studio Head, Mark Lamia. “It is the perfect culmination of our efforts, and fan feedback, with two all-new multiplayer maps for players to experience for the first time, and two fully reimagined fan-favorite multiplayer maps from past games – and Origins, our most epic Zombies experience to date. Apocalypse is a DLC pack that our fans will never forget.”

Multiplayer Maps:

  • Pod: A failed utopian community from the 70’s has left stacks of dilapidated residential pods nestled into an abandoned cliff side in Taiwan. Its residents long gone, the modernist compound now hosts frenetic combat as players must run atop the pods, as well as navigate their multi-tiered interiors for a strategic edge.
  • Frost: Fresh snow meets explosive gunpowder in this snow-capped European city, where the bridge over a frozen canal separates it into two sides, requiring players to employ multi-level traversal strategies to outsmart and ultimately outshoot their enemies.
  • Takeoff: Fans of Stadium from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike DLC will find themselves at home on Takeoff. Marooned in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, this remote launch site is all about close-quarters combat, combining tight corners with open spaces for intense encounters.
  • Dig: An adaptation of the fan-favorite Courtyard from Call of Duty: World at War, where two archeological dig sites in Afghanistan become the perfect playground for combatants eager for hectic, unceasing confrontations. Treyarch, has retained the spirit of Courtyard with two major chokepoints, a wide open layout and raised platforms, but has provided fans with a fresh take on the multitude of paths.

Zombies Map:

  • Origins: a new adventure which takes place in “a Dieselpunk-themed First World War” and stars the original Zombies heroes. Unleashed after the Germans unearthed the mysterious “Element 115,” this next chapter in the Zombies legacy will explore the saga’s origins as players reunite with an unlikely band of soldiers that come together to defeat the greatest evil the world has ever seen, using a period-specific arsenal that includes Wonder Weapons that harness supernatural powers, a diesel-drone and Mark IV tank, as well a new perk machine and power-ups – and that’s just the start. Players will need all the help they can get to succeed in defeating the undead, as well as evading an unprecedented 1,000-foot tall robot abomination. In this stylized undead adventure, they’ll need every advantage if they have any hope of surviving one of Treyarch’s deepest Zombies experiences to date.

A new song called ‘Shepherd of Fire” by Avenged Sevenfold will be played at the opening sequences of the new map.

Ever wondered how many people are currently playing Black Ops 4? We look at the 2018 Call of Duty title’s 2021 player count.

If you’re looking at picking up Black Ops 4, it’s worth knowing how many people are playing the game. We’re taking a look at how many are still playing 2018’s Call of Duty title in 2021.

Black Ops 4 was the last Call of Duty title to release before Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War shook up the formula. It featured the first-ever CoD battle royale, Blackout, which paved the way for Warzone’s incredible success.

The game became free as part of PlayStation Plus in July, but with no joint progression system, there’s less of a reason to go back to it. However, many still prefer the game’s mechanics and maps, so it still has a player base.

Here’s how many people are still playing Black Ops 4 in 2021.

What is Black Ops 4’s player count in 2021?

Unfortunately, there’s no precise way to tell how many people are playing Black Ops 4 in 2021. However, we’ve done some digging around various player count tracking websites to come up with a rough estimate.

According to PlayStation tracking website PS-Timetracker, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was played by 2,510 of their users in August 2021. Of course, the number is likely much higher because you must sign up to have your stats tracked, and it only takes PlayStation players into account.

Another website, PlayerCounter, says that, at the time of writing, there are roughly 12,000 people playing Call of Duty games released before Modern Warfare (2019). Unfortunately, Black Ops 4 has been included with the other previous CoD games, so there is no precise data.

From this info, we estimate that there is likely somewhere between 5,000-10,000 players playing Black Ops 4 in September 2021.

New Warzone Pacific Map

Activision revealed in May that Call of Duty: Warzone has had over 100 million players log in to the battle royale title. According to PlayerCounter, there are 2 million players playing Modern Warfare right now, but this likely takes Warzone into account too.

According to Steam Charts, Black Ops III has 1,300 active users and the rest of the Call of Duty titles on Steam, such as WWII and Advanced Warfare, have player counts only in the hundreds. However, incorporating consoles likely makes the player counts higher.

Black Ops Zombies fans are begging Treyarch for a standalone game

Call of Duty fans are once again calling on Activision to create and develop a massive standalone Zombies game.

Zombies is one of the most popular facets of any Call of Duty game, and fans are once again calling for a standalone game to create the biggest Zombies experience ever.

When Zombies was first added to Call of Duty: World at War back in 2008, few could have predicted the juggernaut it would become among fans of the legendary FPS series. Since then, Zombies has been a staple in Treyarch CoD games, while Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward have dabbled in it too.

Black Ops Cold War‘s take on the game is certainly one of the most ambitious, with the open-world Outbreak mode a fan favorite. While Cold War has plenty of undead action, fans are still calling for even more: a standalone Zombies game developed by Treyarch.

There’s definitely interest from the community around this idea, with Reddit user ‘shweba16’ posting their idea about how it could work on the CODZombies subreddit, while asking others for their thoughts on whether it was a good idea.

“What would you guys think if Zombies became its own separate game like Warzone with Treyarch [as] developers?” they asked. “What if this game had all the maps, running on BO3 mechanics, while also having the upgradeable features from Cold War?”

“The game gets a constant stream of updates, season after season, with Wonder Weapons and maps being added. I’m only saying this since there’s a huge disparity between how much time I’ve put into Zombies compared to multiplayer this year.”

Zombies fans were definitely into the idea, with some saying they “only play CoD games for Zombies anyway,” while others discussed the possibility that they could turn it into a true campaign too, like other popular horror games such as Resident Evil or Days Gone.

Unfortunately for those who love this idea, it definitely won’t be happening any time soon. Sledgehammer Games have already confirmed that Treyarch have built and developed Vanguard’s Zombies mode, which will continue Cold War’s Dark Aether storyline.

Vanguard players want classic Call of Duty feature to make a return

Players are calling for the developers to bring back a fan-favorite feature from previous games for Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is almost upon us, and players are already requesting fan-favorite features from previous games to return.

Players on PlayStation finally got a taste of the upcoming Call of Duty game, Vanguard, through the recent Alpha, which sparked some interesting feedback.

More players will be getting their first experience with Vanguard through the Open Beta, which had dates confirmed very recently.

Although not everyone has played Vanguard just yet, players are already asking the developers for certain features like map voting. In the latest of these requests, players are calling for the developers to bring back another fan-favorite feature that has previously been available in other Call of Duty games.

Custom emblems were previously a staple of Treyarch’s Call of Duty games, but unfortunately, Black Ops Cold War didn’t bring the feature back, which caused players to ask the developers for its return. The feature was also available in WWII, developed by Sledgehammer Games, the studio behind Vanguard.

Although the feature can be quite controversial, it was a very creative way for players to express themselves, and it looks like players are missing it.

Reddit user BigBearSD posted their opinion on why custom emblems should return in Call of Duty: Vanguard, stating: “Something I would like to see in this game. Bring back the ability to create your own emblems!”

The player states that the custom emblem feature provided a creative outlet for when players were done with online matches: “Whenever I maxed out my prestige in WWII and just was bored but feeling creative I would spend hours at a stretch sitting their making historically accurate WWII unit insignia/patches for all factions.”

Through spending hours in the custom emblem creator, the player even had requests from others on how to create the emblems they had made: “I had people asking me how to make a certain patch and I would give them screenshot walkthroughs.”

This must be a great feeling for those who had spent so long trying to perfect emblems and make them look good, hence why players would like the feature back. As the post says, the custom emblems were “a way to de-stress, unwind, (and) kill time.”

Although these custom emblems probably won’t make a return due to their inability to prevent players from creating explicit and insensitive content, the creativity that was allowed was truly a great way to engage players even out of a match.
