Black Ops 3 is the first Call of Duty title to be rated R18+ in Australia
The Australian Classification Board has issued their rating for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and for the first time in Call of Duty history, the title has been given a R18+ rating. All previous Call of Duty titles to date have only received a MA15+ rating in Australia.
What’s odd is that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was given the same check marks for each of the categories that the classification board rates a game on, but was officially rated MA15+. The difference in the rating is that all previous titles were ‘Strong violence’ while Black Ops 3 has ‘High violence.’ It might have to do with the gore that has been added into Black Ops 3.
The classification board says the game has “High impact violence, online interactivity,” but didn’t further elabroate as to why the increase in rating for this title.
In the US, the ESRB hasn’t officially released their rating description for the title yet. It’s expected to be rated M for Mature. The game is also expected to be rated PEGI 18 in Europe.
