Cold War Season 6 update patch notes: Forsaken Zombies, weapon balancing, new maps

Black Ops Cold War is gearing up for a Season 6 to bring to players. Here’s everything you need to know, including weapon changes, new maps, Zombies content, and patch notes.



Black Ops Cold War season 6

Treyarch has released release the Season 6 Update, version 1.23, for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on October 5, which will bring a variety of new content across MP and Zombies modes, including the new Season 6 Battle Pass and more.

Season 6 of Black Ops Cold War includes the all new Season 6 Battle Pass, with 100 fresh tiers including Mason Operator, three new MP maps, three new weapons, and the final chapter of the Cold War Zombies saga, Forsaken.

Treyarch has now posted the patch notes for the new update. The new update goes live live on October 5 at 9PM PT on all platforms with the Season 6 content becoming available on October 6 at 9PM PT.

Warzone’s Season 6 update will go live October 6 at 9PM PT.

The patch notes and information below are only applicable to Black Ops Cold War MP & Zombies.

Season Six starts this week with 100 new tiers of content in the Battle Pass, including the return of Alex Mason at Tier 0. Play all the way through to Tier 100 to earn two free weapons, new Weapon Blueprints, Operator Skins, Vehicle Skins, War Tracks from the Black Ops series, 2XP Tokens, and more. For a special added bonus, you’ll get instant access to three panda-themed Operator Skins for Bulldozer with the Battle Pass Bundle.

This season, we’re proud to bring the new .410 Ironhide Shotgun, Grav Assault Rifle, and Battle Axe Melee weapon to Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty®: Warzone™ at launch. Starting on Oct. 19th, you’ll also be able to earn the LAPA SMG during “The Haunting” Event, as well as the Hammer & Sickle Melee weapon later in the season. For those who missed out on Season Five’s arsenal, we’re also adding new weapon unlock challenges to MP and Zombies for the EM2, TEC-9, and Sai.

Four new Prestige Levels will be available at launch, and more legacy content from previous Call of Duty games is coming to the Prestige Shop, as well as the new “Trench Crawler” Weapon Blueprint at the start of the season. Start saving those Prestige Keys!


Three new maps are coming to Multiplayer at the launch of Season Six, starting with Deprogram. This medium-sized map takes place entirely in Russell Adler’s fractured mind as he’s being stabilized by Mason and Hudson, including Adler’s memories of Vietnam and his fateful encounter with Stitch at The Pines in New Jersey.

It’s all connected by the mysterious Red Doors, which can transport players in and out of the action in an instant. Deprogram is by far one of our most unique MP experiences in Black Ops history, and we can’t wait for everyone to check it out later this week. 

In Amerika, players will take to the streets of a Soviet training facility built as a facsimile of Anytown, USA. Be sure to say hi to Bubby at the Burger Town! For some 2v2 and 3v3 action, we’re bringing you deep below a KGB headquarters vault in Gluboko. If you’re looking for a non-stop grind, this one is particularly crazy in Face Off 6v6.

We’re kicking off Season Six’s Featured Playlists with Deprogram 24/7 and Face Off Gluboko 24/7 this week, along with a new Gunfight Tournament and updated Face Off 6v6 and 12v12 Moshpit playlists including the newest maps in rotation. Keep an eye out for even more Multiplayer content in “The Haunting” Event starting Oct. 19th, including a spooky Halloween version of a classic map, as well as some additional modes to sink your teeth into…

As always, we’re delivering 20 new Multiplayer Season Challenges packed with exclusive Calling Cards and XP rewards to unlock, plus an Animated Master Calling Card for conquering the full set. Reach the rank of Prestige Master, and you’ll get access to all 20 challenges!

And now… the shocking finale of Black Ops Cold War Zombies is almost here.


It all comes down to this. Requiem and Omega Group face off in the ultimate showdown in “Forsaken,” our final round-based map in Black Ops Cold War Zombies and the conclusion to the opening chapter of the Dark Aether story.

As Omega attempts to lure The Forsaken into this dimension – believing they can capture its power to weaponize against the West – Requiem plans on extracting Kazimir Zykov from the Dark Aether to prevent The Forsaken from entering our world. Meanwhile, Requiem’s Director has approved Agent Maxis for “Operation First Domino,” tapping into her newfound Dark Aether powers to serve Requiem’s secretive objectives.

The stakes have never been higher for Samantha Maxis… and for reality as we know it.

Fortunately, as members of Requiem’s elite strike team, you’ll have access to plenty of new toys as you arrive at Omega’s secret test site in western Ukraine. This includes one of the most unique Wonder Weapons in the history of Zombies: The Chrysalax, forged in the pools of Aetheria within the Dark Aether itself. This new multi-function Wonder Weapon in “Forsaken” can be acquired through its own in-game quest, as a potential reward in Trials, or as a lucky roll at the Mystery Box.

As its ancient schematic suggests, this weapon can take two different forms. The first is the Chrysalax Savager, an Aetherial axe that can kill multiple zombies in a single swipe and launch a spinning energy blade into the air.

By shifting the hilt into a front grip, the Wonder Weapon transforms into the Chrysalax Storm, a rapid-fire Dark Aether energy weapon. In this form, shots have a chance to mutate normal zombies into explosive Aetherium Crystal bombs for some added crowd control.

We’re also bringing in the big guns (literally) with two new Support Weapons: the Hand Cannon and the ARC-XD, AKA the Aether Remote-Controlled Explosive Device.

Pick up the Hand Cannon at the Crafting Table when you want to deal massive damage to Special or Elite enemies at their weak points, or if you’re looking to clear an area with as few shots as possible. If you’ve got the need for speed, the ARC-XD takes out zombies as you drive past them with a pulse attack from its attached Aetherium Crystal, and its explosion on impact is more than enough to clear a room.

For our tenth and final Zombies Perk, we’re delivering the best of both worlds with the evolution of a series favorite. PhD Slider comes to “Forsaken” in its own dedicated Perk Machine and at Der Wunderfizz in all round-based maps and Outbreak, packed with game-changing abilities.

Long-time fans will be familiar with PhD’s base ability and some of its crucial upgrades, including immunity to explosive damage from your own weapons. However, its true potential is unlocked once all five Skill Tiers have been activated. Here’s what PhD Slider brings to the table:

  • Base ability – Sliding into enemies triggers an explosion. The size and damage increase the farther you slide before impact.
  • Skill Tier I – Immunity to environmental damage while sliding.
  • Skill Tier II – Increased slide duration.
  • Skill Tier III – Immunity to self-inflicted explosive damage.
  • Skill Tier IV – Increased slide speed.
  • Skill Tier V – Falling from a large height will trigger an explosion. The size and damage increase the higher you fall.

Because you can carry all ten Perks with no limits in Black Ops Cold War, players can combine a maxed-out PhD Slider with Perks like Speed Cola, Jugger-Nog, and Stamin-Up to sprint into a slide even faster, stay alive longer after slamming into hordes at high rounds, and survive massive blasts generated by dropping from huge heights.

Of course, a new Zombies map brings a new set of Zombies Challenges to take on for cosmetic items and XP rewards, as well as new Operator Missions a new Dark Ops Challenge to conquer in “Forsaken.” Twenty new Season Challenges are also coming to Zombies with unique Calling Cards and XP rewards to earn as you make your way to Prestige Master.

Ready to go hunting? Clear your calendar and assemble your squad… the Main Quest in “Forsaken” kicks off at 10AM PT / 1PM ET Thursday, Oct. 7th. You won’t want to miss this.

Also in Season Six, the D.I.E. Wonder Weapon can now be upgraded at the Pack-a-Punch machine in all round-based maps and Outbreak regions! We’re also enabling the Rampage Inducer for Local offline play, and Dead Ops Arcade 3 receives a new round of gameplay improvements and stability fixes this week – check out the patch notes below for details.

On PlayStation, Onslaught gets its newest map with Deprogram and the all-new Onslaught Elite limited-time mode, where you’ll face Elite enemies with each Surge. Survive 20 Surges in Onslaught Elite and you’ll add the exclusive “Rock Salt” Weapon Blueprint to your collection.

This season also brings new weapon tuning changes for the Marshal, EM2, and TEC-9 from Season Five, as well as adjustments for the C58 Assault Rifle, KSP 45 and LC10 SMGs, Hauer 77 and Streetsweeper Shotguns, the Nail Gun, and Ranger Barrel attachments on all Shotguns. Please note that any tuning changes to base damage or critical damage multipliers will not carry over in Zombies.

CoD Points can be purchased in-game using the menu systems in games like Vanguard or Warzone or through console marketplaces like the PS Store or Xbox Marketplace.

How to buy COD Points

You can be very flexible with how you buy COD Points as there are a few different ways to do so. To make sure you’re buying them for the right platform, just double-check with our guide on transferring COD Points across platforms.

There are four ways you can buy COD Points:

  • PC players can purchase CoD Points on the website
  • PS4 & PS5 players can purchase CoD Points in the PS Store on their console, or on the PlayStation website

Do CoD Points carry over across games?

The good news is that your CoD Points will transfer across your Call of Duty games, as they are linked to your Activision account.

Players who still have CoD Points in their account from Black Ops Cold War don’t need to worry, as they will automatically be in your account when turning to Vanguard.

What can I buy with COD Points?

Call of Duty’s currency is used to primarily buy two things: the Battle Pass for the current season and Bundles containing a variety of items.

Battle Pass

Vanguard Season 1 Battle Pass

A Battle Pass is a paid Tier system that allows regular players to earn dozens of extra rewards and cosmetics for essentially playing the game.

Vanguard and Warzone Pacific are currently in Season 1 at the moment. Both titles are currently running in tandem with each other and share the same Battle Pass.

It features 100 Tiers for players to smash their way through the course of Season 1, and if players are committed enough, they can actually earn enough CoD Points, through leveling up the pass, to get the next one for free.

You can buy the Vanguard & Warzone Season 1 Battle Pass via a couple of different methods:


Attack on Titan bundle CoD

The other main content you can buy is a wide range of Bundles and Operator Bundles. These special bundles vary in price, and each comes with its own unique items.

The collectibles you can expect to find are Calling Cards, Emblems, Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, Weapon Charms, and more.

Treyarch’s latest announcement has detailed how Black Ops Cold War progression will sync to Vanguard with upcoming update.

Call of Duty players have just received confirmation that playing previous Call of Duty titles will work toward progressing in Vanguard. A new update is set to hit Black Ops Cold War on December 6th in preparation for the massive launch of Vanguard Season 1 on December 8.

The patch notes detail synchronized progression with Vanguard as well as new Prestige Levels and rewards, Season Challenge unlocks for the past six seasons, new Prestige Shop content, and weapon balancing.

Black Ops Cold War fans will be happy to hear that the game is going to continue to receive updates alongside Call of Duty: Vanguard. The latest announcement from Treyarch shares plenty of info concerning shared progression across Call of Duty titles.

Players will enjoy synced progression from each of Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Warzone toward Vanguard. This may seem complicated but it just means that playing any of the three titles mentioned above will earn progression for Vanguard.

Synced progression entails unlocking Military Rank, weapons, Equipment, and Killstreaks. In addition, there will be a ton of interesting details such as allowing players to showcase their lifetime Prestige number earned across past titles.

Some changes will go live on December 6 while the rest will occur on December 8.

Patch Notes


  • Synchronized Military Ranks and Prestige Levels
    • Military Rank and Prestige Level progression will be synchronized with Vanguard at the launch of Season One.
    • All players will begin the season at the Military Rank or Prestige Level they have currently reached in Vanguard, or Military Rank 1 if they have not played Vanguard yet.
    • Players can progress Vanguard Military Ranks in Black Ops Cold WarWarzone, and Modern Warfare to unlock weapons, Equipment, Killstreaks, and other content for use in Vanguard and Warzone.
  • Prestige Rewards
    • Complete Military Ranks 1-55 to start a new Prestige journey, with new Prestige Levels to unlock across Black Ops Cold WarVanguardWarzone, and Modern Warfare.
    • In Season One, players can earn up to Prestige 7 as they progress their Season Level. Four additional Prestige Levels will be added per season.
    • Each Prestige Level awards a Prestige Key, Tier Skip, Emblem, and Sticker in Black Ops Cold War.
    • Reach Season Level 50 in Season One to unlock the exclusive “Duck Hunt” Weapon Blueprint for use in Vanguard and Warzone.
  • Lifetime Prestige
    • Lifetime Prestige display added to Black Ops Cold War and Warzone at the start of Vanguard Season One that display the total number of Prestige Levels earned across previous seasons and in Vanguard.
  • Prestige Master Ribbons
    • Players can now continue their Black Ops Cold War Prestige Master Ribbon progression. Each season, a new Prestige Master Ribbon will be added to the current six Black Ops Cold War Prestige Master Ribbons.
    • Players can progress their Prestige Master Ribbons in Black Ops Cold WarVanguardWarzone, and Modern Warfare by reaching Prestige Master at Season Level 200.
    • Players can now catch up on missed Prestige Master Ribbons each time they earn 200 Season Levels in a season. For example, reaching Season Level 400 will award two Prestige Master Ribbons, if available.

Prestige Shop

  • Black Ops Cold War Prestige Icons will be unlocked and available in the Prestige Shop for anyone who earned them in previous seasons.
  • Players can now equip any acquired Prestige Icon (1-27) as long as they’ve reached Prestige Master at least once in a current or previous season.
  • Players do not need to currently be Prestige Master to access Custom Prestige Icons in the Prestige Shop.
  • Equipped Prestige Icons will no longer be reset at the start of each season.

Season Challenges

  • All previous Black Ops Cold War Season Challenges will be revealed and can be progressed by players who hadn’t revealed them over the course of previous seasons. Legacy Season Challenges can continue to be progressed in Black Ops Cold War.
  • Starting with Season One, players can access and progress new Multiplayer Season Challenges in Vanguard and Warzone, as well as Zombies Season Challenges in Vanguard.

Weapon Unlock Challenges

  • .410 Ironhide
    • Weapon unlock challenge added to Multiplayer and Zombies for the .410 Ironhide Shotgun.
  • Grav
    • Weapon unlock challenge added to Multiplayer and Zombies for the Grav Assault Rifle.

Weapon Tuning (Dec. 6)

  • Marshal
    • Damage
      • Reduced Damage Range from 3.81m to 3.68m.
      • Increased Damage drop-off when fired beyond 3.68m.
    • Dragon’s Breath Attachment
      • Now has a -5% effect on Fire Rate.
      • Increased Damage Range penalty from -25% to -35%.
      • Reduced Damage bonus from +17% to +16%.
    • 12.1″ Extended Barrel
      • Reduced Damage Range bonus from +20% to +15%.


  • Updated Lobby theming in Multiplayer and Zombies.

Zombies (Dec 6)


  • Closed an exploit during the Main Quest boss fight.
  • Added “Not Enough Essence” prompt to the Arcade Token dispenser when the player does not have enough Essence to purchase a token.

  • Addressed an issue where a texture was not appearing correctly after melting the door during the Main Quest.


  • Enemies killed by Brain Rot zombies will now contribute toward the Dragon Relic World Event.


  • Added Onslaught Containment and Onslaught Deprogram to offline Local play.


  • Fixed stability issues related to the Arsenal.

Will you be able to use Cold War and Modern Warfare weapons in Warzone Pacific?

One question on everyone’s mind ahead of Warzone Pacific’s Caldera map is whether or not you’ll be able to use Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War’s guns in it. We will answer that for you today.

Call of Duty: Warzone already has a ridiculously bloated arsenal of weapons for players to choose from. With over 100 guns to select as of Warzone Season 6, the transition into Warzone Pacific and the new Caldera map will see all of Vanguard’s guns added.

However, this begs the question for many players, will the new map and addition of nearly 40 Vanguard weapons mean that either Modern Warfare or Black Ops Cold War weapons need to miss out?

Can you use Modern Warfare and Cold War weapons in Warzone Pacific?

Fans of any of Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War’s weapons will be pleased to know that they too will also be carrying over into Warzone Pacific.

In an exclusive interview with Dexerto, Zach Hodson, Lead Designer at Sledgehammer Games discussed how Vanguard’s weapons will have to be considered when being added to all the other existing guns in the game.

He said that SHG has to keep a “separate balance sheet to track how things might work in Warzone.” Presumably, this is to factor in the extra 40 guns, taking Warzone up to a total of about 150 guns for players to use.

It should be noted that Warzone Pacific game modes will tailor the guns to its different game modes. Warzone Caldera Battle Royale will allow the use of all guns, whereas Vanguard-specific modes will only allow the use of Vanguard weapons.

How to use Cold War & MW weapons in Warzone Pacific

Whilst there’s nothing concrete just yet, we think that to use these weapons in Warzone Pacific, players will simply be able to select the ones they have unlocked once the Season 1 integration with Vanguard goes live.

When Black Ops Cold War and Warzone merged, it was a simple case of players being able to use the guns that they’d unlocked in Cold War, Modern Warfare, and Warzone. If you hadn’t unlocked a certain gun, then you could complete a challenge condition that was different in each game.

We expect this to be exactly the same in Warzone Pacific, and it’ll be up to the preference of the player, and their availability of each CoD game, to decide how to unlock particular weapons.

We’ll be sure to update this once Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software have provided a bit more official insight into the integration of weapons.
