The newest Call of Duty effort already provides a healthy amount of game modes for players to enjoy and switch between. But we can’t help but feel some much-loved classics need to return. Here are 6 of the best game modes that BOCW needs to let us enjoy.

Game modes in Black Ops Cold War are like a revolving door as some come in, and be out shortly after. It’s obviously Treyarch‘s desire to keep the game fresh and make sure people are coming back regularly to see what new changes they’ve implemented.

There is still plenty of life left in Black Ops Cold War and we’ve brainstormed a few ideas that we think would keep the game feeling new and enjoyable.

1. Gun Game

You can’t really go wrong with Gun Game. It’s a mode that never gets boring and always feels unique.

It’s also one of the greatest tests of your CoD ability as each player starts on equal footing with no one possessing any discernible advantage in the form of better guns or perks. It’s a brilliant mode that will surely reappear at some point.

2. Cyber Attack

First introduced in the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot, Cyber Attack is a fast-paced battle of attrition that requires on-the-spot decision-making to become truly efficient.

Do you plant the device? Do you dive head-first into the combat to revive several allies? Cyber attack is frantic, frenetic, and fantastic and needs to return.

3. Headquarters

Headquarters has seemingly been dethroned by Hardpoint as the de facto “hold an area” for a certain amount of time mode.

But the beauty of Headquarters is that, unlike Hardpoint’s constant wave of attacks and unlimited respawning, you have to be far more vigilant with Headquarters. Once your team captures it, you have to stay alive or your respawning is delayed until the HQ is gone.

4. Team Tactical

The introduction of Face-Off will probably put to bed any hopes of a Team Tactical resurgence, but one can only hope.

Smaller games of Team Deathmatch, Search & Destroy, etc always felt fun and competitive in Team Tactical. Teamwork was key due to the reduced numbers and it made for some fun matches.

5. Express Mode

The constant omission of an Express Mode is a truly puzzling and unexplainable decision. It literally encourages players to keep playing Call of Duty.

Express Mode basically meant that if you wanted to reel off a few games in-a-row of Team Deathmatch and Domination, then as soon as one game ended, the wait time was effectively halved and you were straight into another game before you could blink. A necessity to increase CoD productivity, especially if you have XP Bonuses.

6. One in the Chamber

Another example of an ingenious game mode that has been an afterthought more than it should have.

Our hands have never sweated more than when our pistol had one single, solitary bullet sitting in the chamber, waiting to see what destiny awaited us. It’s an incredibly tense mode and requires some decent skill to win a game as hapless shooting will earn you a swift death.

Those are the six modes we very eager to see return in Black Ops Cold War and think would benefit the game a lot. Some current players have probably never even experience some of these underappreciated gems either.

Are there any others you’d like to see added to the game? make sure to let us know.
