Black Ops Cold War Day 1 digital sales highest in franchise history
Call of Duty continues to sell incredibly well, and this year appears to be no different for the franchise.
Activision sent a statement to CharlieIntel announcing that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Day 1 digital sales were highest in franchise history.
Activision has been heavily promoting digital options for Black Ops Cold War. All of the game’s bonus content were exclusively tied to digital versions.
In a statement from Anna Malmhake, Managing Director, EMEA, at Activision Blizzard, the company highlighted the game’s record opening day.
“Friday’s release of Black Ops Cold War set a new record as the highest first day digital sales worldwide in franchise history. Thank you to Call of Duty players everywhere. Launch is just the start.”
Activision states that Black Ops Cold War launched into the “most engaged and active” player base in Call fo Duty history. Executives recently revealed Call of Duty has over 100 million active monthly players across consoles, PC, and mobile.
The company has further re-stated their extensive post launch plans for the title. They’ve said the game will see the “biggest Black Ops year ever” with free post launch content for everyone.
“This new title is releasing into the largest and most engaged Call of Duty community ever. We look forward to delivering an incredible amount of free post launch content, events and support for the entire community as Black Ops Cold War evolves just as we did last year following the release of Modern Warfare.”
The statement did not reveal dollar revenue generated for the title as of now. Modern Warfare remains one of the most popular Call of Duty games of all time. The game generated over $650 million in its opening weekend in October 2019. Modern Warfare has gone on to sell well over 30 million copies.
