How to disable Adaptive Triggers for Black Ops Cold War on PS5
Black Ops Cold War’s integration of the PS5 DualSense controller has been seamless. But despite how incredible the adaptive triggers make firing guns feel, the effects don’t quite translate to multiplayer – here’s how to fix that.
One of the PlayStation 5’s fantastic new features that makes it feel truly next-gen is the new adaptive triggers that are on the new DualSense controller. They make games feel more interactive and especially make CoD feel far more immersive.
The minor caveat that comes with this for Black Ops Cold War is that the unique feeling of squeezing the trigger doesn’t translate as well to the online. In fact, it can actually hamper your performance and make you play worse.

They’re honestly sensational to use in something a bit more casual like the campaign, but the truth is that most people have built up anywhere between 5-20 years of FPS muscle memory. Firing a gun usually comes at the tap of a button.

When you’re in a competitive online environment, we found that it was so easy to press the R2 button – as we would’ve done on the PS4 – and realize that not enough pressure had been applied.
Furthermore, the thundering resistance of the triggers feels great, but the additional force required can lead to a fatigued finger believe it or not. So we decided to turn them off, and the way to do it is quite straightforward.
- Pause the game
- Go to Settings
- Remain on the Controller tab
- Scroll down until you get to Trigger Effect
- Disable it
- Exit to save the changes
Now your settings are back to being like any Call of Duty ever made. We understand how innovative and groundbreaking this new reactive feedback is, so if you feel like you want to make the most of the new technology, then by all means keep/turn it back on – especially for non-online stuff.
Whether you’ve turned it on or off, we hope this guide helped, and hope you have a setup that suits your feel for the game and that benefits you the most.
