How to rank up in Black Ops Cold War League Play
League Play has finally arrived in Treyarch’s Black Ops Cold War, and we’ve put together a handy guide that should clear up how you rank up in the new system.
After constant moaning and groaning about wanting a ranked mode, the Call of Duty community has finally gotten their wish. League Play is officially here, and players are already trying to rank up and certify themselves as CoD gods.
The much sought-after competitive mode introduces divisions, ranks, rewards, and more. League Play should alleviate the matchmaking troubles that many players have had throughout the game’s duration.
SBMM has been a constant source of complaint since the game’s launch with SBMM tests conducted by JGOD, Drift0r, and various other CoD players showing how harsh SBMM can be. Now we have League Play, and for those who want to level up fast and put themselves in the sternest lobbies possible, read on to see how you can do this.

League Play Skill Divisions
Your first course of action will be to play and finish five official games of League Play. Once you have done this, the game will assign you a Skill Rating based on your placement matches. You’ll then be placed in a Skill Division with lots of other players that are very close to your Skill Level.

Be warned though as Treyarch has said your Skill Division placement may “increase or decrease as your skill rating or the active player population changes.”
To ensure you keep progressing up the ladders, here’s what you’ll need to do:
- Win matches
- You will earn Ladder points from doing this and it will help you to ascend
- Losses will decrease your position on the ladder
- Win consecutive matches to get a streak going and earn more points, similar to the scorestreak system in Black Ops Cold War
- Earn a Daily Bonus from logging in and playing each day
- DO NOT manually leave a game of League Play, such actions will result in Ladder Point penalties and a match loss
- The first person on a team to leave a game will be penalized the most harshly too
League Play Gems
Once a League Play ladder has concluded, you will be assigned Gems which are used to increase your rank.
If you manage to reach Rank 5, Rank 10, Rank 15, Rank 20, Rank 25, and Rank 30, then you will receive a special League Play Calling Card for each one.
This should hopefully clear up any confusion surrounding League Play Skill Division and how to rank up. Just to reiterate, make sure you’re completing matches, don’t leave no matter how badly it’s going, and help your team to win.
