Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Nov. 6 Game Settings Update: 9-Bang, MP Updates, And More

Published

on

Treyarch has released a new game settings update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Treyarch has changed the game mode selection in MP and removed Gun Game from Featured. Team Tactical Moshpit is the new Featured Mode for the next week.

In addition, Treyarch has unlocked the character missions in Blackout for the Zombies Chaos Crew. Each of the four characters have different missions to complete to unlock them. The BlightFather event has been added to Blackout as well. This event was first introduced during the Blackout beta, which brought in a monster zombies into Asylum for players to kill and to get extra loot.

From Treyarch:

For a limited time, the fearsome Blightfather has been transported from IX to haunt the Graveyard just south of the Asylum. Those of you who took him on during the Blackout Beta know he won’t go down without a fight – and the victors will be handsomely rewarded this time around. This event is now live in all Blackout playlists on all platforms, so keep an eye out for the red pillar of light for a chance to slay the Blightfather… or pick off those who dare try.

We’ve also unlocked the Blackout Character Missions for our Black Ops 4 Chaos Storyline crew and increased Character Mission quest item spawn rates, so get out there and complete those hidden challenges to drop in as Bruno, Diego, Scarlett, and Shaw.

In Multiplayer, new playlists have arrived in the Featured category, including the debut of Team Tactical Moshpit, Mercenary Chaos Moshpit, and Mercenary Hardcore Moshpit. Read below for all the details on these new playlists and let us know what you think. As a reminder, playlists will be rotating into the Featured category on a weekly basis, so keep an eye out for fresh new game types and the return of fan-favorites each week.

We’re also kicking off our first 2X Tier Boost Weekend in Multiplayer and Blackout starting on Friday, along with 2X Nebulium Plasma in Zombies on all platforms from 10AM PT Friday, Nov. 9 through 10AM PT Monday, Nov. 12! Players will earn Contraband Tier progression twice as fast during this event, and we’ve got new ways to boost your Contraband Tier progression coming very soon.

For our Zombies players: game stability has remained our #1 priority, and while we’ve implemented additional crash fixes listed below in today’s update, we know we’ve still got more to deliver for the Zombies community. To that end, we will have more shortly from Zombies team that will address current development, as well as how we’re prioritizing stability and gameplay improvements.

Patch Notes:

Blackout:

Playlist Updates

  • Blightfather added to all playlists.
  • 100-Player Quads added to the Featured playlist.
  • Maximum players in Solo and Duos playlists changed to 88.

Character Missions

  • Zombies Chaos Storyline Character Missions now available (Bruno, Diego, Scarlett, and Shaw).
  • Increased drop rates of Character Mission items.

Weapons (Blackout Only)

  • Submachine Guns
    • Increased muzzle velocity on all SMGs. This should provide more consistent gunfights when in SMG range, along with ensuring that SMGs perform as expected in their intended power band when compared to Assault Rifles in Blackout.
    • Spitfire
      • Reduced recoil.
  • Assault Rifles
    • Rampart 17
      • Reduced ADS sway.
      • Reduced recoil.
  • Tactical Rifles
    • Auger DMR
      • Increased re-center speed. We slowed down the re-center due to high performance in our Blackout beta, but have seen the AUGER slightly underperform since release.
      • Slightly increased muzzle velocity. This should make for more predictable shots when firing at a moving target within the Auger’s intended ranges.
  • Swordfish
    • Tightened the spread pattern. This should allow more shots to land on target at range.
  • Light Machine Guns
    • While some players have found success with the LMGs in Blackout, they’re still being passed over by the large majority of players. These changes should help make LMGs more manageable when providing cover fire or engaging targets at range.
    • Titan
      • Increased re-center speed.
      • Reduced re-center pattern offsets for more predictable recoil.
    • VKM 750
      • Increased re-center speed.
      • Reduced re-center pattern offsets.
    • Hades
      • Increased re-center speed.
      • Reduced re-center pattern offsets.

Equipment (Blackout Only)

  • 9-Bang
    • Removed the 9-Bang from Blackout while we evaluate its place in the gameplay loop.
  • Concussion Grenade
    • Increased throw distance.
    • Increased stack count to 2.

Multiplayer:

  • Playlist Updates
    • Added Team Tactical Moshpit to Featured Playlist (3v3 TDM, Kill Confirmed, and Search & Destroy).
    • Added Mercenary Chaos Moshpit to Featured category (6v6 TDM, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Hardpoint, no parties allowed).
    • Added Mercenary Hardcore Moshpit to Featured category (Hardcore TDM, Domination, and Kill Confirmed, no parties allowed).
    • Gun Game and Control now in Featured category.
  • Gameplay
    • Resolved an exploit in Search & Destroy where players could change classes after the start of a round to regain Scorestreak progress from the previous round before death.
    • Resolved an issue in Heist where navigating the Buy Menu with the d-pad could display the description for the previously highlighted item.
    • Resolved an issue where meleeing friendly Razor Wire in Hardcore game modes would damage players, potentially causing the player who placed the Razor Wire to be kicked for friendly fire.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Corrected the description for “Fast Reflexes” Challenge to inform players of requirement to get 5 EKIA in a game shortly after switching weapons with Dexterity, Overkill, and Laser Sight.

Zombies:

  • Stability
    • Resolved 2 specific crashes in the IX Main Quest.
    • Resolved a crash related to banner challenges in IX.
    • Resolved a crash that occurred when the Shield broke while the player had the Victorious Tortoise Perk active.
  • Gameplay
    • Resolved an issue where players could end up in a permanently downed state if they are revived as a self-revive is being completed.
    • Resolved an issue where picking up the Max Ammo power-up while Bandolier is active did not give additional ammo if the weapon was at its normal Max Ammo capacity.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Resolved UI issues caused by opening the Paintshop after personalizing a weapon in the Armory.
    • Resolved an issue where players could equip Talismans in Local Play.
    • Changed Aftertaste Elixir description to reflect its 5-minute duration.
    • Changed Arsenal Accelerator Elixir description to reflect its 2-minute duration.

General

  • Challenges
    • Resolved an issue where level-restricted Challenges could be locked again after Prestiging.

PC Specific:

  • General
    • Added Audio Presets to Options.
    • Resolved an issue where the rotation icon would appear when highlighting any items in the Black Market.
  • Zombies
    • Resolved an issue where players would be forcefully defeated when using the Fast Travel from Transverse Tunnel to reach the Cafeteria before opening its door in Blood of the Dead.
    • Resolved an issue where Warpaints could not be removed after being applied.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Black Ops 4 assets appear in Black Ops Cold War

Weapon icons and symbols from Black Ops 4 have been appearing in Black Ops Cold War.

Weapon icons and symbols from Black Ops 4 have been appearing in Black Ops Cold War.

Black Ops Cold War has had a rough launch, as is somewhat expected with a major new release, with widespread crashes and game-breaking bugs being reported.

While a game is in the development process, developers often use assets from previous games as placeholder images. Until the game has been fully developed, they’ll add images from previous games to take up space until the new image can be inserted.

Some of these placeholder images have been appearing in Black Ops Cold War.

Reused assets

The Dual Wield attachment icon in Cold War appears as the Saug’s dual wield icon from Black Ops 4.

While hovering over weapons, the game can show weapons from Black Ops 4 instead. When u/Metoaga hovered over an M82 Sniper Rifle in the campaign, the image for it displayed BO4’s SDM Sniper Rifle. Also, while in Zombies, u/IronClooch69‘s RPD was displayed as the Hades Light Machine Gun from Black Ops 4.

Reddit user u/Lorenso0 reported getting Black Ops 4’s Prestige Master screen after completing a match of Free for All in Cold War. Other players confirmed they were also receiving the Prestige Master screen at around level 94.

Black Ops Cold War has seen multiple game-breaking bugs and crashes, such as the PlayStation 4 controller disconnecting. With those bugs, it’s likely that fixing reused assets appearing in Cold War will be far down on Treyarch’s agenda.

We will probably have to wait for the launch of Season 1 on December 10, where a large patch will be available to download.

How Nuketown has changed over the years

We take a look at Nuketown throughout the years.

Published

on

Call of Duty revealed that classic map Nuketown will be coming to Black Ops Cold War on November 24.

Nuketown has been in every iteration of the Black Ops franchise and Cold War will be no different. It will feature a brand new version of Nuketown called Nuketown ’84. We’re taking a look at how the classic map has evolved throughout the years.

Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010)

Nuketown

Where it started. This small map started as a project by level designer Adam Hoggatt. It wasn’t intended to be in the full game but after playtests, it quickly became a favorite among the developers.

Inspired by the 2008 movie Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, the map is designed to be a nuclear testing facility modeled after 1950s suburban America.

Nuketown is a small map, capitalizing on the popularity of Shipment in CoD 4: Modern Warfare (2007) and Rust in Modern Warfare 2 (2009). With its yellow school bus in the center and picket-fenced gardens, it instantly became one of CoD’s most memorable maps.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (2012)

Nuketown 2025

Nuketown returned in the next installment of the Black Ops franchise. With the exact same layout, this updated version brought Nuketown to the 21st century.

Nuketown 2025 came as a pre-order bonus with Black Ops 2 but could also be purchased as DLC. This version of Nuketown swapped the classic 1950s look for a blend of retro 60s with Black Ops 2’s futuristic aesthetic.

This updated version fixed the spawn issues from the original Nuketown, leading to many believing this to be the best iteration.

Nuketown Zombies

Nuketown was also included in Black Ops 2’s Zombies mode. It was basically the original Nuketown map designed for Zombies.

This version of Nuketown is the aftermath of the nuclear bomb that goes off at the end of every Nuketown round.

In this version, the map has been damaged by the Nuclear Bomb and smoke and ash blotting out the sun. Zombies spawn in all the usual ways but the Pack-A-Punch and Perk-A-Cola machines spawn after killing certain numbers of zombies.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified (2012)

Nukehouse

This is a version of Nuketown most will be unfamiliar with. Activision released a stripped-back version of Black Ops for the PS Vita called Black Ops Declassified. The single-player took place between the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 and also included multiplayer.

A smaller version of Nuketown which only featured the yellow house and the truck on the street was included. This map was extremely small with players often spawning right next to each other.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (2015)

Nuk3town

Black Ops 3 recreated Nuketown in a science-fiction style. With bright colors, futuristic cars, and digital confetti rising from the buses, this was a very different looking Nuketown. The layout of the map stayed much the same, however.

This map wasn’t available for the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 as this game released during the transition between console generation.

Apart from the aesthetic changes, this version also had high walls to take advantage of ‘wall-running’ which was part of Call of Duty’s movement system at the time.

There were also Easter Eggs included in Nuk3town such as shooting mannequins in a certain sequence which would start a zombie-esque outbreak.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2018)

Nuketown 2018

Nuketown 2018 received a mixed reception. This version took on a Soviet aesthetic, being set in the winter with a muted color palette. Although less of a change compared to Nuk3town, players were underwhelmed by the map’s design.

The specialist abilities such as the Grapple Gun drastically altered the flow of the map. Players felt that Nuketown 2018 played too differently to the original.

An addition some liked was the RC-XD tunnel system, in which the remote car could be driven beneath the map past missile silos, and come out the other side.

Nuketown Island (Blackout)

Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode Blackout featured many classic Black Ops maps. Nuketown was included in a location of the map called Nuketown Island.

Nuketown Island includes the whole town that Nuketown is part of, taking heavy inspiration from the classic Nuketown map as well as Nuketown Zombies. The area is heavily damaged similar to how it is in Nuketown Zombies and contains the original cul-de-sac from Nuketown.

Brand new to Nuketown, the area has a nuclear bunker and tunnel system underneath that players can access.

Call of Duty Mobile (2019)

Call of Duty Mobile contains classic maps from both the Black Ops and Modern Warfare franchises and Nuketown is no exception.

This brought it back to the very original Nuketown map we had in Call of Duty Black Ops. Although played on mobile devices, the map plays much the same as it did in the very first Black Ops.

With Nuketown returning in Black Ops Cold War, expect it to have a 1980s theme.

COD 2020 Teasers: Black Ops 4 Summit map, Treyarch social profile

As we opened our new crates that Activision sent through, Black Ops 4’s Summit map got an update.

The screens in the center of the map in Black Ops 4 turned on which seem to match to what some of our slides show:

There’s also a look at clocks of 4 out of the 5 locations that some of us got as part of the slides to see:

These changes do appear to be new, especially the screens with the targets on them. Analyzing older images of the maps showcase that the screens were not showing the same thing.

In addition, Treyarch has updated their cover photo on social channels.

It’s getting cold out there…
