Call of Duty: Mobile discloses loot boxes odd because of Apple and Google policy

Call of Duty: Mobile, the free to play mobile Call of Duty game, features extensive microtransactions offerings as expected with any mobile free to play games these days.

The game features Battle Passes, ability to purchase items from the store, supply drops, and more across the game.

One difference with Call of Duty: Mobile compared to console Call of Duty games Supply Drops is that the loot boxes odds are disclosed in the game — letting players know the percentage of earning a rarity of items in the game.

Here’s the message shown in game:

  • Epic (Purple): 0.80%
  • Rare (Blue): 44.47%
  • Uncommon (Green): 54.73%

This exists in Call of Duty: Mobile because of the policy requirements that both Apple and Google has.

Apple’s App Store policy for mobile games with loot boxes clearly indicates that the odds must be disclosed.

Here’s Apple’s Policy:

Apps offering “loot boxes” or other mechanisms that provide randomized virtual items for purchase must disclose the odds of receiving each type of item to customers prior to purchase.

For console games, it was announced in August that Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo will require Game Publishers to disclose odds of earning items in games that contain loot boxes in the near future. It’s not clear when this policy takes effect yet as the ESA has yet to provide an update on the rollout of this new rule.
