Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Rumor Round-Up – UPDATE

UPDATE – March 21: Following these two retailers talking in their support channels, Call of Duty fans started asking all sorts of retailers about a possible MW2 Remastered.

Amazon’s and Walmart’s support channels both seem to respond to Modern Warfare 2 Remastered-related questions, but one support conversation stated that all of the information could also be placeholders till Activision provides official details. One specific Amazon support individual claimed that orders would start on March 23, 2018 for it, as shown in the images below. Images posted to Reddit suggested an April 1st order date, while Walmart’s support chat claims a March 26 order date for the game. There seems to be a lot of different information and dates floating around from retailer’s support channels, with no official details from an official source as of now.

So the rumor mill and fan craze seems to have gotten out of hand this past week, after a listing briefly appeared on Amazon Italy about a possible ‘Cod MW2 Remastered’ that’s apparently coming soon.

Activision has not announced any information about this, nor have they provided any indication that a Call of Duty remaster game is coming anytime soon.

Beyond the Amazon Italy listing, some other rumors started to float around this past week.

A lot of rumors started to swirl about an impending announcement when AliA tweeted he was heading to GDC in San Francisco this week for a secret project. Many immediately thought it had to be MW2 Remaster related; some went as far as posting tons of Reddit posts about his visit. However, AliA has now come out and stated his visit has nothing to do with Call of Duty.

Another rumor that started floating around today is when a Raven Software developer apparently changed his Twitter header to a new image with 3 Modern Warfare characters. But that header has no direct relation to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The employee’s Twitter header is the official artwork for Call of Duty Online for China. Call of Duty Online for China combines all of the best of the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series into a PC free to play title for China’s market. This is the image in the employee’s header:

Raven Software is the lead developer of Call of Duty Online for China, Activision’s free to play Call of Duty title available exclusively in China. Raven developers in both their Wisconsin and China offices have been working on that title for years. Many Raven developers, and even the official Raven social accounts at one point, have had that above image on their social profiles when the image was first released, back in 2014.

Raven Software’s social accounts further accelerated some rumors, after they shared a picture of one of their walls in the studio – stating something new is coming there, with more info soon.

The latest rumor that is floating around is that a Best Buy Support employee’s tweet from the official Best Buy Support Twitter account. It seems a Best Buy employee was baited by a hardcore Call of Duty fan into answering a question.

Support employees rarely know secret information, so this is not a real confirmation of sorts at all. A listing on the actual website would be very different from a support employee’s response. Best Buy has not listed an MW2 Remaster on their site at this time.

Target’s own support channels decided to jump in on the hype with their own tweet, stating they have no information about a remaster as of now.

We know many fans love Modern Warfare 2 and want to see Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered. We love MW2, just as much as all of you. But as of now, all of this is just rumors with a lot of hype behind it; there is nothing official from Activision about any Call of Duty remaster.

The only indication that Activision has provided about possible remasters coming in 2018 is an SEC filing which stated the company is planning on releasing remasters from their IP library in 2018. A prominent rumor behind this is a possible Spyro trilogy, which was first reported by Kotaku UK.

When or if we ever get more information on a possible MW2 Remastered, we’ll be sure to share. Stay tuned, as always.
