Before jumping into a multiplayer match, Modern Warfare 2 players must first select a playlist. Here’s how playlists work in Modern Warfare 2 and the ones you can expect to come across.

Modern Warfare 2 will offer a ton of different experiences for players to enjoy. Not only can players opt for, DMZ, Warzone 2.0, and Spec-Ops, but they’ll also have a wide variety of choices when it comes to Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer.

Players can expect plenty of maps and modes, but more importantly, they’ll also get to hop into different playlists. Playlists in Modern Warfare 2 will help players identify which kind of multiplayer experience they’re looking to dive into.

What is a Modern Warfare 2 playlist?

Playlists in Modern Warfare 2 contain different maps and modes for players to enjoy. The choice of playlist you select will dictate the type of Modern Warfare 2 gameplay you’ll experience.

Playlists may seem like their own modes, but they differ from game modes. Instead, Modern Warfare 2’s game modes will fall under certain playlists and it’ll be up to you to select the playlist that corresponds with the game mode you want to play.

All Modern Warfare 2 playlists explained

The Featured playlist in Modern Warfare 2 will place new maps and modes in the spotlight. This particular playlist will change the most as devs release new LTMs and maps throughout Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 and beyond.

It’s positioned as the first playlist so players don’t miss out on the new content. The Featured playlist does not contain specific mode restrictions and should highlight numerous maps and modes.

Quick Play

The Quick Play playlist allows players to customize their own preferred method of playing Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer. You can select your favorite game modes and deselect the ones you’re not interested in playing via the Quick Play menu.

The Quick Play playlist will allow players to get into a match as quickly as possible all while allowing for further personalization any time you’re looking to freshen things up.

Tier 1

The Modern Warfare 2 Tier 1 playlist will feature reduced health, limited HUD, and friendly fire between teammates. Longtime Call of Duty fans will recognize this as the Hardcore playlist.

It seems the devs decided to rebrand Hardcore as Tier 1 in Modern Warfare 2. This playlist is perfect for players who wish to experience maximum realism. Of course, this will only apply to modes that support Tier 1 gameplay.

Third-Person Mode

Modern Warfare 2 is reviving the classic Third-Person Mode and if players select the corresponding playlist, they’ll be able to experience select modes via the Third-Person perspective.

Players can enjoy the new Operator-focused view as it will give “more perspective on your overall surroundings in exchange for less depth of field in front of you.”
