Sniper Rifles have been a staple of the Call of Duty franchise for years and players have revealed the changes to the weapon type they want to see in Modern Warfare 2.

Sniping in Call of Duty isn’t the easiest playstyle to implement, but once you get the hang of it, the joy of pulling off insane Sniper Rifle kills is unparalleled. We’ve had some iconic Snipers over the years including the Intervention and M40A3 that players put to great use.

However, instead of focusing on specific weapons, players are revealing the changes to Sniper mechanics they want to see in Modern Warfare 2 that will lead to a more enjoyable experience.

Modern Warfare 2’s October 28 release date is fast approaching and players can already pre-order their copies today. Discussion surrounding changes players want to see in the next iteration of the Call of Duty franchise are starting to heat up.

The latest from the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit involves a debate on the new Sniper mechanics in the game. Players offered their takes on what the devs need to do to create a balanced Sniper weapon pool.

For starters, a main point of contention in the community seems to revolve around ADS speed. One player explains that Modern Warfare’s SPR is an example of what the devs should avoid, “I do not need another 2 years of people running around with a sawed off SPR that aims in faster than an SMG and can one shot to the entire upper torso, no thanks!”

While quickscoping is a useful style of play for those who master the technique, most players in the comments agreed that the SPR took things too far. This brought up another discussion between players who debated over separating these types of weapons into two categories.

Modern Warfare had the Sniper Rifle category and Marksman Rifle category. Some players believe that this was a good thing, as these weapons were split based on their intended use. For example, Snipers would be for long-range and deal more damage, while Marksman Rifles would cater to an aggressive playstyle.

Others believe that having two categories would lead to another Sniper imbalance in Modern Warfare 2 as the superiority of Marksman Rifles would make Sniper Rifles obsolete, “they could improve the balance of snipers in this new game and 2 separate class sections for them makes no sense.”
