The fan-favorite Gunfight mode from 2019’s Modern Warfare is expected to return in Modern Warfare 2, but it won’t be available at launch.

On June 8 the floodgates of Modern Warfare 2 information officially flew open as Infinity Ward revealed a ton of details about their upcoming Call of Duty game. Players received a huge breakdown of what to expect from the Modern Warfare 2 campaign, as well as the franchise’s new water mechanics.

However, that’s not all as Call of Duty fans also got the news that a classic Modern Warfare mode is set to return in the sequel. That’s right, Gunfight will make its way to Modern Warfare 2 as a post-launch addition.

Modern Warfare Gunfight mode

Modern Warfare’s Gunfight game mode was Call of Duty in its most raw state. This mode would pit players against each other on tiny maps designed for close combat. Two teams of two players would face off in an attempt to kill the opposing team in 40 seconds or less.

Each team would use the same class that would change every two rounds. The first team to win six rounds would be declared the winner. Players enjoyed the mode for its reliance on gun skill as the measure of success.

Fans of Gunfight can rejoice as it seems the mode will make its way to Modern Warfare 2 post-launch. While we don’t know when this will be, it’s understandable that Infinity Ward will attempt to primarily showcase their new Knockout and Prisoner’s Rescue modes.

With Gunfight returning to Modern Warfare 2, the thrill-seekers who are looking for intense moments on small maps should have a lot of fun with the mode. One moment of hesitation could cost your life, but it remains an excellent mode to improve and practice your weapon handling.

We’ll have all of the details concerning Modern Warfare 2’s modes including the rumored DMZ mode once it’s officially confirmed.
