As well as all this, players will also be getting some brand-new game modes for Modern Warfare 2‘s multiplayer. One of the new modes is called Havoc, and it’s the first time it has been seen in Call of Duty.
Havoc will be a new core multiplayer mode once introduced in Season 5, and it features a very unique and interesting rule set. For those who would like to know more about how Modern Warfare 2 Season 5’s new Havoc game mode works, here’s our complete guide.
Modern Warfare 2 Havoc explained
Havoc is a new core multiplayer mode that the devs say is “inspired by classic arena-shooter gameplay.” The game mode has a score limit of 60 kills and it plays similarly to Team Deathmatch. However, in Havoc, Perk Packages, Killstreaks, and Field Upgrades have been removed in favor of “match changing modifiers” that alter “the gameplay in new and interesting” ways.
All MW2 Havoc modifiers confirmed so far
These enhancement modifiers are introduced every 12 kills and they affect both teams. There is a pool of 14 different enhancements that change gameplay, but the devs have only shared five of them so far. Here are five of the enhancements that can occur:
- Ammo Feeder: Auto reloads a weapon (from stock ammo) upon elimination.
- Boots Off the Ground: Moon gravity. Affects only player jump heights, not thrown equipment or ballistics.
- Flameshot: Flame-tipped Crossbows and Molotovs only. All Loadouts change immediately to this upon modifier activation.
- Hero Landing: Landing from a big drop causes a frag-grenade-like explosion around you.
- Perspective Shift: Everyone swaps to a third-person camera view.
These enhancements stack and will activate every 12 kills at random, so each game of Havoc will play out differently as you may get enhancements you didn’t get in the previous game or in a different order.
Modern Warfare 2’s new Havoc game mode arrives on Season 5’s launch, which is August 2, 2023. For more on MW2, make sure you check out some of our other guides below:
