Modern Warfare 2 beta players are furious with Infinity Ward’s decision to not include a classic Call of Duty multiplayer feature.

Call of Duty fans have finally been able to get their hands on the brand-new installment of the franchise thanks to the Modern Warfare 2 beta. While players have been getting to grips with the new Perk system, Gunsmith, and discovering a cheeky way to unlock the MP5, others have been less impressed.

The removal of slide canceling was a shock to players, and although the community has found a way to perform the action, it’s not as good as it was in MW2019.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only well-liked feature that didn’t make it into the Modern Warfare 2 beta, as players are furious about the way the minimap works.

Modern Warfare 2 players want classic minimap

Similar to Modern Warfare 2019, Modern Warfare 2’s beta has removed red dots off the minimap unless a UAV is active.

In classic CoD titles, the minimap in multiplayer would ping an enemy if they shot without a suppressor, providing valuable information about the opposition’s whereabouts.

While it doesn’t seem like a huge change, reading the minimap has always been a major part of CoD gameplay, and not being able to see where enemies are shooting unsuppressed weapons has riled up the community.

When CharlieIntel played a build of Modern Warfare 2 in June, the classic minimap was active, but according to the devs this was a “bug for the build,” as it was “swiftly disabled afterwards.”

This is a shame as CharlieIntel states that “the game was so much fun with it on,” and they aren’t the only ones who feel this way.

Many are furious with the devs for not including the classic minimap, with comments under the Reddit post saying “This is the type of thing that bothers me about Infinity Ward. Why invite creators out early to test your game and provide feedback if you’re not gonna take that into account?”

Further, Reddit user starwars011 stated that the change is taking away their “motivation to play.” As stated in the post, usually a suppressor is a “basic trade off between stealth and firepower,” but in the MW2 beta, this isn’t the case.

Of course, it’s important to note that this is still the beta, and the game is subject to change. However, as the classic minimap wasn’t present in Modern Warfare (2019), and despite players calling for the feature it never returned, it’s not very likely that it will be seen in MW2.

We’ll have to wait and see once Modern Warfare 2 is released on October 28, 2022. For now, check out every Field Upgrade in the Modern Warfare 2 beta.
