Modern Warfare 2 UI “overhaul” reportedly coming after major backlash
Modern Warfare 2 players have been pushing back against the game’s user interface and according to a new report, Infinity Ward will be revising the UI/UX in stages.
Modern Warfare 2 is finally here, bringing the most successful Call of Duty launch of all time. But while players have been loving its core gameplay, they’ve been slamming the game’s streaming service-esque UI, branding it the “worst ever” and calling for urgent change.
Gone is the classic list of modes and options down the side of the screen, instead, Modern Warfare 2 separates all of its content into boxes, forcing players to scroll horizontally to find attachments, camos, and game modes they want to play.
With there being so much backlash to the system, a new report claims that Infinity Ward are aware of the issues and will be bringing updates in stages.
According to insider RalphsValve, “a few flags were raised” around Modern Warfare 2’s UI ahead of launch, where it was described as “difficult, and invasive to design goals.” Their report claims that the UI that we see at launch “primarily boiled down to time, coordination, and working from home.”
Now, Infinity Ward are reportedly in the process of revising the UI/UX for Modern Warfare 2. “It’s a work in progress, there’s a lot of moving pieces … updates have been well underway,” quoted the leaker.
RalphsValve said it seems like they’re taking “a more piecemeal approach to refining the UI/UX in stages, rather than on launch,” with “several departments” working in collaboration to “sharpen the UI and other additional interfaces for Season 1 and beyond.”
Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 arrives on November 16, bringing Warzone 2, DMZ, maps, and more. Perhaps we’ll see some changes to the UI, but bear in mind that nothing has been confirmed by Infinity Ward, so don’t take this report as gospel.
