Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Warzone now has over 75 million players.
The game first launched on March 10 free to play on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The last time the company provided an update on the numbers was in early May, when the company said the game passed 60 million players.
Call of Duty: Warzone has reached over 75 million players to date. In the first full quarter since Warzone launched, hours played in the Modern Warfare universe increased eight-fold year-over-year, driven by both existing and new players.
Reaching 75 million players in its 4 months makes it one of the fastest growing free to play games of all time, up to par with Apex Legends.
Warzone is Activision’s first ever free to play experience on consoles on PC and has been extremely successful for the company.
Activision also says that Modern Warfare’s premium sales were the highest during Q2 2020 compared to any other outside of launch quarter in Call of Duty’s history, with many of those sales coming from Warzone upgrades.
Modern Warfare added more players outside of a launch quarter to the premium Call of Duty experience than ever before, with the majority coming through upgrades from Warzone. On PC, life-to-date consumption for Modern Warfare is more than double that of the prior title.
Call of Duty: Warzone’s newest season, Season 5 which is set to bring map changes and more, launches on August 5.
Warzone players call for removal of “pay-to-win” Roze skin
Warzone players are calling for the all-black Roze skin to be removed after its prominence in a major tournament.
Players have been voicing their frustration with Warzone Operator Roze’s ‘Rook’ skin, who’s black outfit almost completely camouflages players in dark environments.
Although Call of Duty is keeping microtransactions purely cosmetic, some pay-to-win items have crept into Warzone through the Battle Passes. The Gallantry MAC-10 blueprint was far more powerful than its regular counterpart, leading Raven Software to hotfix the issue.
Since Modern Warfare Season 5, Warzone players have complained about the power of the Roze skin. Seeing almost all top Warzone players use this skin while competing for $250,000 has proved that the skin is overpowered, and players want it gone from the game.
“Pay-to-win” Warzone Operator skin
In a story similar to Fortnite’s all-black superhero skin that could easily camouflage in dark environments, Roze’s Rook skin is the same.
Her outfit is completely black without any reflective surfaces to help her be spotted in dark areas. Even her eyes have black facepaint around them.
Both Verdansk and Rebirth Island have some extremely dark corners inside buildings and the Rook outfit blends in perfectly. The new Gulag also has some dark spots to hide in, where your enemy will have a hard time spotting you.
The issue isn’t entirely new, but January 21st’s $250,000 Warzone Twitch Rivals tournament especially highlighted the power of the skin.

In a game where there are 54 Operators to choose from, all with several different variants, almost all of the competitors rocked Roze’s Rook skin in the tournament. Operator skins are supposed to be cosmetic-only and offer no competitive advantage, but the amount of Roze skin used in competitive Warzone tells a different story.
Reddit user caribou_drew posted a screenshot from HusKerrs stream during the tournament, which shows a mob of Roze’s ready to drop into the tournament. Caribou_drew said they “wish they would take the skin out of the game.”
As Rook was included in Season 5’s premium Battle Pass, players have been calling this skin pay-to-win. Because players have paid for it, it’s unlikely that the skin will be removed. However, Raven Software could adjust the color so it doesn’t give so much of an advantage.

Epic Games had to do a similar thing in Fortnite, where the Plastic Patroller skin was the same green color as certain areas of the environment. Epic was quick to adjust the color, removing the advantage it provided.
With the amount of social media posts complaining about this Warzone skin, Warzone players would likely be more than happy to see the change.

Best Warzone Kar98k loadout: Attachments & perks
The Kar98k is the fastest sniper in Warzone Season 1, so use these attachments and perks to maximize your sniping mobility.
The Kar98k is the most versatile Marksman Rifle in Warzone, capable of both long-range sniping and close-range quick-scoping.
Warzone has separated Sniper Rifles and Marksman Rifles into different categories. Sniper Rifles, such as the AX-50 and LW3 Tundra are heavier and designed for range in Warzone. The Marksman Rifles are lighter and more versatile but don’t pack as much punch.
However, the Kar98k is perhaps the best rifle out of either of these weapon classes. With high bullet velocity, one shot headshots, and excellent mobility, the Kar98k is favored by many Warzone pros and content creators for sniping.
Here are the best attachments and perks to maximize the Kar’s potential across Verdansk and Rebirth Island.
Best Warzone Kar98k loadout
- Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor
- Barrel: Singuard Custom 27.6″ Barrel
- Laser: Tac Laser
- Optic: Sniper Scope (Crossthread Reticle)
- Stock: FTAC Sport Comb
This Kar98k build maximizes its range and bullet velocity potential while maintaining speed. This weapon will be capable of dropping targets in a single headshot from any range as well as being able to quick-scope reasonably well in a pinch.
As is the staple with all long-range builds, the Monolithic Suppressor and the Singuard Custom 27.6″, the longest barrel, are necessary. These attachments both increase its damage at range as well as vastly increase its bullet velocity. You’ll find yourself hardly having to compensate for lead or bullet drop, so simply aim for the head.
These attachments do slow the weapon down. In order to counter this, the TAC laser and FTAC Sport Comb stock speed up ADS time and mobility. Starting a firefight with a quick headshot with this weapon will put your team at a massive advantage. The speed of this weapon will also net you an advantage in sniper fights as you can stay mobile while quickly firing accurate shots.
The 7x magnification of the Sniper Scope is enough for almost any range in Verdansk. The Sniper Scope comes with an arrow-shaped reticle as default, but after getting 200 kills using the Sniper Scope on any weapon, you will unlock the Crossthread reticle. This reticle has a more classic cross shape that doesn’t obstruct your view of the target so it’s worth unlocking and using.
Best perks to use with Warzone Kar98k
Perk 1 – Double Time
Double Time will increase your Tactical Sprint duration as well as increasing your speed while sprinting. While sniping, repositioning between shots is vital. Sprint around and keep your enemy guessing where you’ll appear from and you’ll find sniper fights much easier.
E.O.D is one of Warzone’s most common perks, but when you’re picking off targets at long range, explosive damage isn’t something to worry about. You’ll get a much greater benefit from faster movement speed.
Perk 2 – Overkill then Ghost
The ground loot weapons in Warzone Season 1 aren’t great, so you’ll want to run your own Assault Rifle, such as the RAM-7, or SMG along with the Kar98k. Overkill will allow you to take two primary weapons from your first loadout, then you can hide yourself from the radar with Ghost from your next loadout.
Perk 3 – Amped
While sniping, you need the ability to quickly change weapons. Whether following up on a body shot with automatic fire, or needing to deal with a player in close range, you don’t want to have to wait while swapping weapons. Amped allows you to change to your secondary almost instantly, further increasing your speed on the map.
If you want to be the fastest sniper in Verdansk and Rebirth Island, you can’t go wrong with the classic Kar98k and these perks.

Warzone devs respond to incorrect Cold War weapon attachment descriptions
Developers have confirmed a fix for Black Ops Cold War weapon attachment descriptions being incorrect in Warzone.
Several attachments for Black Ops Cold War weapons ported to Warzone don’t match their in-game descriptions. Warzone devs have confirmed that a fix is in the works.
Call of Duty content creators such as JGOD have done extensive testing on all of Warzone’s weapons. They discovered that the MAC-10’s Gallantry blueprint performed vastly better than its regular counterpart and that Black Ops Cold War sniper scopes have no glint.
The broken MAC-10 has now been patched, but there have been serious inconsistencies with the BOCW attachment descriptions. Some have no effect on the weapon, and others do the opposite of what they’re supposed to.
Raven Software has confirmed that they are working on a fix for incorrect attachment descriptions, as well as certain attachments not unlocking.
Warzone devs to fix incorrect attachment descriptions
On Activision’s official Trello Board, a card reading CW weapon attachments: Certain attachments are not unlocking or working as intended’ was added with the tag ‘under investigation’ on January 21.
The card was added by Alexis Barth, the Communications and Community Manager at Raven Software, confirming they will be handling the patch.
With Warzone featuring a detailed Gunsmith system, you can choose up to five unique attachments that vastly change your weapon’s performance. Each attachment has a different description and stats to match. Meaning you can build your weapon any way you want.
However, many of the attachments for the Black Ops Cold War weapons in Warzone do the opposite of what they’re meant to, with some even having no effect.
For example, the Stoner 63 can be vastly improved by a barrel that supposedly gives extra ‘vehicle damage’ but actually increases bullet velocity. The Striker Grip for the SMGs also grants recoil control when it’s meant to increase melee damage speed.
Most players wouldn’t even think about attachments not performing as they’re meant to, so they could be wasting their valuable slots.
Raven also addressed they are working for a fix on weapon attachments not unlocking.
It may take Warzone devs a while to fix this issue as they have to test every Cold War weapon, so keep an eye on Charlie Intel for the best weapon loadouts, such as our guide for the best AK-74u.
