How to fix Packet Loss & Packet Burst in Warzone Season 6

Packet Loss and Packet Burst have been a continuous problem for Call of Duty: Warzone players, so here are some solutions to fix your connection problems and reduce stuttering and lag in Season 6.

Although Warzone Season 6 has brought some much-need updates to the game’s map and weapon balance, more and more players have been reporting connection issues. Packet Loss and Packet Burst, marked by the yellow or red squares on the left of your screen, will make your game feel laggy and stuttery.

There are many reasons you could be receiving Packet Loss and Packet Burst on Warzone and it could be fixed by simply using a wired connection, or it may be a deeper problem with your game files.

No solution is guaranteed to be the be-all and end-all fix, but some of these solutions may help to alleviate your problems.

Use a wired connection

Using a wired connection may seem like an obvious solution, but it can do wonders in fixing lag and Packet Loss. Connecting your console or PC to your router with an ethernet cable will be faster, cause less interference, and generally be more secure than using a wireless connection.

If you were already using a wired connection, or this hasn’t helped the problem, read on for more possible solutions.

Set your NAT Type to Open

You’ll have one of three NAT (Network Address Translation) Types: Open, Moderate, or Strict (Xbox and PC), or Type 1, Type 2, or Type 3 (PlayStation). Ideally, you want your NAT Type to be at Open/Type 1 to get the most reliable connection while playing Warzone.

If your NAT Type is set to Moderate/Type 2 or Strict/Type 3, you can troubleshoot the issue and fix the problem. This solution, called ‘Port Forwarding’, comes from Activision Support.

Type in your routers IP address into your browser
Log in to your router using either the router’s default username or password, or the one you created yourself
Find your router’s ‘Port Forwarding’ section
Put the IP address of your PC or console in the correct box in your router
Enter the correct TCP and UDP ports for your game in the corresponding boxes. Here are all of the required port codes:

PC
- TCP: 3074,27014-27050
- UDP: 3074,3478,4379-4380,27000-27031,27036

PlayStation 4
- TCP: 1935,3478-3480
- UDP: 3074,3478-3479

Xbox One
- TCP: 3074
- UDP: 88,500,3074-3075,3544,4500

PlayStation 5
- TCP: 1935,3478-3480
- UDP: 3074,3478-3479

Xbox Series X|S
- TCP: 3074
- UDP: 88,500,3074-3075,3544,4500

This will open your ports, and allow Call of Duty: Warzone to have an open NAT Type, making for a more reliable connection, and hopefully alleviate Packet Loss and Packet Bursts.

Set the correct number of cores (PC only)

This solution is also tried and tested for fixing low FPS issues in Warzone, but there are reports it can also fix Packet Burst problems.

Modern Warfare’s files can sometimes default to an incorrect value for how many cores your system has. This causes hitching and stuttering, and will likely be the cause of Packet Burst.

Here’s how to set the correct core value for Modern Warfare/Warzone:

Open ‘Task Manager’ and select the ‘Performance’ tab
Click on ‘CPU’ and on the right you’ll see how many cores your PC has (e.g 6)
Open ‘Modern Warfare’ in ‘Documents’
Select the ‘players’ folder
Click on ‘adv_options’
Set the ‘RenderWorkerCount’ to equal your number of cores
Save and Exit and you should see a marked improvement in Warzone performance

Check your drivers are up to date (PC only)

There are also some reports that ensuring your drivers are up to date will reduce Packet Loss and Packet Burst. An out-of-date driver can cause many issues, including low FPS, so it’s worth checking out anyway.
