While the Warzone 2 Season 2 update nerfed the meta-defining RPK and Fennec, it turns out the weapons are destined to continue their dominance in the new season.

The Warzone 2 Season 2 update brought plenty of new content to explore like the new Ashika Island Resurgence map, Path of the Ronin event, and of course, several new weapons.

Prior to the update, players were calling out for major buffs and nerfs to Warzone 2 weapons. With two guns dominating the meta, the hope was that the Season 2 buffs and nerfs would shake up the game and inject the stale Warzone 2 meta with some new options.

The initial reaction following the discovery that the RPK and Fennec were both nerfed with the Season 2 update was one of excitement. However, upon further review, it seems like the nerfs to the RPK and Fennec were inconsequential.

Warzone 2 Season 2 update fails to properly nerf RPK & Fennec

Thanks to stats expert TheXclusiveAce, players discovered that the RPK and Fennec are destined to remain atop the Warzone 2 meta despite Season 2 nerfs.

In the case of the Fennec, it seems as though the Season 2 nerf only slightly reduced headshot damage. The stats expert explains that this is “not a huge impact.”

Players quickly voiced their frustration with the Fennec not being nerfed enough, concluding that “Neither was the rpk. Both ‘nerfs’ were incredibly minimal.”

To make matters worse, TheXclusiveAce‘s analysis revealed that the Fennec’s upper torso damage was buffed ever so slightly, which led to one player’s disbelief: “lol so they buffed the upper torso damage?”

Interestingly enough, the initial reaction to the nerfs was a positive one. This allowed one player to comment on the relationship between patch notes creating a placebo effect for players.

According to that player, the devs just “need to say this has been nerfed a bit and after that most players are playing with different weapons even though the nerf is non existent lol.”

Indeed many players started to experiment with new weapons after the Season 2 update arrived in the hopes of finding the new meta. However, with the nerfs to the RPK and Fennec failing to make an impact, it’ll likely be more of the same in Warzone 2 Season 2.
