Warzone devs tease perk rebalance to counter Dead Silence

The Warzone community has long been complaining about both the “stale” perk meta and overpowered Dead Silence Field Upgrade, but Raven Software have teased that solutions are incoming.

Although Warzone players feel Modern Warfare’s weapons are underpowered compared to their Cold War counterparts, weapon balance is perhaps in the best place it’s ever been. Raven Software are dedicated to raising the time to kill across the board, and although Season 4’s MG 82 went against their original vision, they nerfed it on June 22.

In the patch notes for this update, Warzone’s devs explained that they’re looking at rebalancing perks to counter the frustrating Dead Silence Field Upgrade.

Warzone and modern warfare dead silence field upgrade

Dead Silence and Stopping Power are two of the most powerful pickups in the game. Dead Silence completely conceals your footsteps, allowing you to run up on enemies without them ever knowing you’re coming. Stopping Power makes your bullets ignore armor and do more damage, giving a major advantage in any gunfight.

After community backlash, Raven Software significantly reduced Stopping Power’s spawn rate. Now, the community has set its sights on the Dead Silence perk, calling for its spawn rate to also be reduced.

Raven Software appears to have another rebalance in mind, as they discussed creating “counterplay” options to the field upgrade. In the June 22 patch notes, Warzone’s devs added a note regarding perks.

“Some thoughts on Perks…” the devs began. “We are exploring all avenues in terms of changes to provide ‘fair’ and ‘reactable’ counterplay options to Dead Silence.”

However, they reined in expectations by clarifying that, “A decision like this must be made carefully especially considering how it may destabilize other aspects of the game. We cannot promise anything at this moment but as we close in on an appropriate solution, we will share more details.”

Players have been calling for a perk rebalance for some time now, as the same few perks have been the meta since the game launched in March 2020. While no changes are confirmed, Raven are listening to the community and are considering fixing both the “stale” perk meta and powerful Dead Silence.
