If you are just starting out with Warzone in Season 1 after its integration with Black Ops 6, the AMES 85 would be an appropriate choice. Yes, it does have lower recoil than other rifles in the list but you have to use the right attachments with it to get the best out of the weapon in battle royale.

In Warzone, the AMES 85 proves to be a strong competitor but falls short of being a meta assault rifle. What makes it beginner-friendly and reliable is a solid long-range TTK, low recoil, and a fast fire rate. So, if you’re new to Warzone and want to maximize its loadout’s effectiveness, check our recommended attachments below.

Best AMES 85 loadout

  • Optic: Willis 3x
  • Muzzle: Compensator
  • Barrel: Gain-Twist Barrel
  • Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
  • Magazine: Extended Mag II

Optics are mostly a personal choice but the Willis 3x scope provides a clear sight with a thin frame with triple the magnification over iron sights. The magnification factor is crucial, especially in Warzone where dealing with enemies at long ranges is more frequent than BO6 multiplayer.

Coming to the muzzle, attach the Compensator for better vertical recoil control. The Gain-Twist Barrel will significantly improve the bullet velocity (by 35%). This will come in handy in battle royale as faster bullets mean quicker knockdowns and make it much easier to hit moving targets.

Vertical Foregrip should be your go-to underbarrel choice here as it greatly improves horizontal recoil control and also unlocks fairly early in the game. Lastly, the Extended Mag II will increase the ammo capacity by 30, a factor that aids extended gunfights.

Perks, Equipment, and Wildcard

  • Perk 1: Dexterity
  • Perk 2: Quick Fix
  • Perk 3: Ghost
  • Wildcard: Battle Ready
  • Lethal: Semtex
  • Tactical: Stim Shot

We are using a similar set of Perks and Equipment combo as the Krig C loadout. Dexterity reduces weapon sway while jumping, sliding, and diving and allows reduced fall damage, which is a bonus in Warzone.

Ghost and Quick Fix are must-haves as the former keeps you hidden from UAVs, portable radars, and heartbeat sensors while the latter will regenerate your health immediately after a kill or when applying an armor plate.

Since we are using a 5-attachment AMES 85, the Battle Ready Wildcard is a great option as it provides you with a UAV and Utility Box. Coming to equipment, go for Semtex to deal quick damage and Stim Shot for quick health top-ups.

How to unlock the AMES 85

You can unlock the AMES 85 simply by reaching player level 19. This can take some time if you’re only playing Warzone and the unlock process of course accelerates if you have purchased Black Ops 6 as well.

Reaching player level 19 doesn’t take a lot of time though. Play some Warzone or Plunder matches, get as many kills as possible, and try to finish in the top 10 and you will rack on XP.

Best alternative weapon

The XM4 is a great AMES 85 alternative. Here’s why:

StatXM4AMES 85
ADS Time248ms303ms
Bullet Velocity1080m/s1026m/s
Fire rate800rpm750rpm
Hitscan Range54m51.3m
Swap Speed1210ms1350ms

The XM4 has a faster aim-down speed (ADS) time than the AMES 85 which means aiming will be faster and with a higher bullet velocity, enemies will get knocked down quicker.

The fire rate is 50 rpm more than the AMES 85, a greater hitscan range ensures better shooting down enemies, and a faster swap speed makes the XM4 superior. Alternatively, you can use the XMG if you prefer a bigger magazine size.
