Black Ops 6 players split as devs confirm Omnimovement can’t be turned off
ActivisionEach Call of Duty game adds new features to elevate the experience, and this trend continues with Black Ops 6’s Omnimovement.
First revealed during the BO6 Direct event in June, this omnidirectional movement feature will allow players to “sprint, dive and slide in any direction as well as maintain full 360-degree range of motion.”
On July 15’s CoD Podcast, Stephanie Snowden, Activision‘s Senior Director of Studio Communications, confirmed that players won’t be able to toggle Omnimovement off, as it’s a “core foundational mechanic.”
This caused a divide in opinion amongst players, as some claimed it would create a “completely busted” CoD experience, while others think it will force them to show “who’s a pro and who isn’t.”
Below CharlieIntel’s post sharing the news, a player expressed their disagreement with the devs’ decision, saying, “it should honestly be an option… some of us should want to play the og way we should be able to.”
On the other hand, another user noted, “why would anyone want to turn it off?? imagine having a core element, new and fresh mechanic & ppl will say ‘no thanks.'”
Some consider omnidirectional movement the “most innovative thing happening to CoD in over a decade,” while others worry about how “sweaty” lobbies will become, especially with the feature’s expected arrival in Warzone.
Following the same sentiment, a player shared that they “can’t wait for pro sweat tryhards to be diving around in every direction at full speed every gunfight like Max Payne.”
However, content creator SoaR ZEPHY remarked people “judge too quickly.” Then, they compared how players used to hate BO2’s dolphin diving to several years after becoming a fan-favorite CoD movement mechanic.
While not all players are happy about the inability to disable Omnimovement, many believe that there’s no point in overhauling the game’s movement if people can avoid it.
Like AW’s jetpacks or the slide cancel, also considered controversial decisions due to how they altered movement in CoD, some think that people “need to get their hands on it before they can really say ‘I like it’ or ‘I don’t like it.'”
