Black Ops 6 Ranked Play set to arrive at the perfect time

Every year, Call of Duty players who want to play like the pros and test their abilities eagerly wait for the Ranked Play mode to arrive, but it almost always comes a couple of months after the game’s launch. Fortunately, Treyarch are dropping Black Ops 6’s competitive mode much earlier than any other year in the CDL era.

Black Ops 6 Ranked Play will arrive at the start of Season 1, and if it follows the same pattern as years previous, it goes live roughly three weeks after the game’s launch. Even if it’s not at Season 1’s launch, it should still come before the holidays.

Modern Warfare 2019 skipped it entirely, but Cold War’s League Play and all the subsequent Ranked Play modes arrived in February, a few months after launch. MW3’s came a bit earlier in January but it was still over two months after launch so players felt it didn’t come quick enough.

Players have been requesting an earlier Ranked Play arrival for years.

Ranked is one of the best parts of the yearly CoD cycle, stripping the game down to its most competitive parts and rewarding skill. It’s also some of the best content to watch, so the wait is always painful.

The Call of Duty League kicks off in early December so with it arriving around the same time as Black Ops 6, the competitive season should feel much more connected.

It probably wouldn’t make sense for Ranked Play to arrive on launch day anyway, as the map pool, weapons, and restricted items won’t have been decided yet. It’d essentially be a free-for-all of OP weapons on maps that don’t make sense competitively.

Waiting until the start of Season 1 seems the best choice as the pros will at least have established an early ruleset and narrowed it down to the best pool of maps available, but we won’t have to watch them for weeks before jumping in ourselves.

Over on the Warzone side of things, we’re finally getting Urzikstan Ranked Play sometime during Season 1.
