Black Ops 6’s Batman-like Homing Knife sparks multiplayer concerns
ActivisionThe Black Ops 6 campaign gameplay reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 showed off a Batman-inspired piece of Equipment that players are worried could be overpowered in multiplayer.
Fans got their first look at the Most Wanted campaign mission that sees a team of Black Ops operatives attempt to rescue Adler from a CIA base. As the mission’s intensity increases, your character puts several new tools like the Homing Knife to the test.
You can detonate the Homing Knife as it approaches an enemy. The blade’s major upside is the fact that you can control its path while it’s in the air, steering it toward your target.
As you can see in the clip above, once the Homing Knife is thrown, it’s up to you to use the Right Stick to steer it and the X button (PlayStation) to detonate it. Players immediately compared it to the Remote Control Batarang in the Batman: Arkham series: “AYO WHAT IN THE AKRHAM ASYLUM REMOTE BATARANG THAT IS SICK.”
While most of the reactions to the Homing Knife were positive, some players drew the line at its availability in multiplayer: “Just don’t bring it to mp and we’re all happy.”
The new piece of Equipment was shown off in the campaign gameplay reveal on August 20, but as of now, there are no details about whether it will be available in multiplayer or how it will work in the mode.
This didn’t stop players from expressing their hope that it’ll function differently in the multiplayer mode. Some want to see it appear as a Killstreak, which could limit its effectiveness.
One fan jokingly claimed that it would be “hilarious” to use in multiplayer and Warzone “if it works the way it was shown in the campaign.”
Interestingly enough, the Most Wanted level playthrough blog uses the terms Equipment and Lethal to refer to the Homing Knife. We’ll have to wait and see if this applies to multiplayer as well.
