Black Ops 6’s camo grind removes most time-consuming step

The camo grind is well and truly back in Black Ops 6, with Mastery Camos available to earn in not just multiplayer and Zombies, but Warzone too. Now, a Treyarch dev has confirmed that one of the most time-consuming aspects of the camo grind has been removed.

In a Tweet on August 29, Treyarch’s Associate Design Director Lawrence Metten confirmed, “BO6 Camos don’t have any Weapon Leveling requirements.” So, you can start ticking off camo challenges as soon as you unlock the weapon, and you won’t have to grind it to a certain level just to access the next challenge.

The dev also confirmed how the Mastery Camo will be achieved. Each weapon has three stages, with nine camos earned through Headshot milestones before two unique camos are unlocked through challenges. Then, there’s the Mastery Camos, although it’s not clear how they’re unlocked just yet.

For me at least, it was actually leveling up the weapons that made MW2 and MW3’s camo grind take so long. I’d be burning through a mountain of Double Weapon XP Tokens while throwing Decoy Grenades, collecting every Dogtag in Kill Confirmed, and sitting in the Hardpoints all day. Sure, my team probably loved me, but I’d spend 90% of my time doing this only to tick off the camo challenge in a game or two.

Now with Black Ops 6, you’ll be able to start completing the camo challenges as soon as you have the weapon unlocked, making the process much easier and less time-consuming − especially when using an objectively bad gun.

The only thing that could slow it down is if there are attachment-specific camo challenges. For example, you might need Akimbo Pistol kills for one of the camos but can’t unlock the Akimbo attachment until Weapon Level 20.

We’ll need to wait and see how difficult the camo challenges are but at the very least, you won’t have to get every weapon to max level to unlock the camos.
