Call of Duty 2024 will be featured at the Xbox Games Showcase, and players think they’ve spotted the official name for the Black Ops game in promotional images for the event.

The Xbox Games Showcase will take place on June 9, 2024, and Microsoft revealed that the main event will be followed by a Direct showcase for a “beloved franchise.” It didn’t take long for the Call of Duty community to decipher that the Direct will focus on the FPS franchise.

Following the announcement, a report from The Verge explained that their sources confirmed the Direct following the Xbox Games Showcase will be a “deep dive” into Call of Duty 2024.

For months, the Call of Duty community has been calling the upcoming title Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War. Leaks and reports from various outlets pointed to Gulf War as the name for CoD 2024, but that name has been thrown into question following the reveal of promotional images for the Direct following the Xbox Games Showcase.

A closer look at the image reveals what looks to be BLACK OPS _ under the redacted black bar. This has led to speculation that the title could be Black Ops V. Canonically, this would make sense as the latest numbered Black Ops installment arrived as Black Ops 4 in 2018.

However, other players pointed out that “Cold War was 5,” so it remains to be seen if 2024’s Call of Duty will use 5 in its name. There’s no telling what the redacted part of the image contains and if the devs view Cold War as a stand-in for Black Ops 5, then speculation could be wide of the mark.

The promotional image also revealed a logo that was previously found in MW3’s files for Call of Duty 2024. CharlieIntel confirmed that CoD 2024’s internal code name is Cerberus, which would explain the dog logo from the Xbox Showcase image.

Call of Duty 2024 being part of the upcoming Xbox Showcase in June marks the first time a new CoD title will share the stage with Xbox since Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in 2014.

Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, Call of Duty players can expect the franchise’s ties to Xbox to grow stronger, resulting in changes like CoD 2024 coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch.
