Activision have deployed an update to the icon issue that saw PC players being shown as Xbox console players after the MW3 Game Pass launch.

MW3 and Warzone saw a huge spike in cheater reports since the Game Pass launch on July 24, and to make matters worse, PC Game Pass players were showing up with the Xbox console icon.

This confused many as players thought they were facing off against fellow console users, but were actually challenging PC Game Pass players, some of which would have been on mouse and keyboard. It made hackers harder to spot, which led to the devs quickly responding with an update to their detection system.

As of July 30, Activision have released an update to fix the issue and confirmed that PC players via the Game Pass will now show up with the correct icon.

MW3 PC Game Pass players now show up with the standard PC icon, letting players know exactly what platform they’re on. It also lets players know whether they’re using a controller or mouse and keyboard.

The difference in these inputs when it comes to gameplay can be drastic, so mouse and keyboard players showing up as Xbox users caused a lot of uncertainty.

Activision assured players that RICOCHET can identify a player’s platform regardless of this icon, but players are convinced the fault caused an increase in cheaters.

With the issue now resolved, Warzone and MW3 players will hope to see an improved experience. This is especially true since Activision managed to take down two more major cheat providers after settling the case against EngineOwning.
