Major Black Ops 6 leak reveals new Warzone map but players already hate it
ActivisionA major leak has seemingly revealed a new Warzone map coming as part of Black Ops 6, but the early footage has left players concerned about the overall design and layout of the map.
On August 4, a huge leak emerged that contained unreleased footage of Black Ops 6 multiplayer, including previously unannounced maps, weapons, and more. But, the leak also revealed part of a new Warzone map, which, according to Insider Gaming, will be the next BR battleground after the return of Verdansk expected in 2025.
When players got their first glimpse of the map, codenamed ‘Avalon’ internally, many were quick to criticize the layout, as the section shown appeared to be several smaller islands separated by water.
“Nothing but open fields and water, no thanks,” said a Reddit user in response to ‘JenNettles’ post that shared the leaked footage. Another added: “That’s so much f*****g water. Have they EVER received positive feedback about the inclusion of water? Why are they insisting on shoving it in wherever possible?”
Although many felt that the look of the Avalon map was interesting, they also added that water is an inconvenience on Warzone maps, as it makes traversing and avoiding the closing gas cloud more difficult.
“I like the vibe and a lot of the individual locations look cool, but that’s a lot of water,” said another response. “I already find it frustrating to cross rivers in Urzikstan, and this looks far worse.”
Meanwhile, others called out the map for being too open, offering little cover which could mean that items like Smoke Grenades become meta once again: “Smokes wouldn’t be needed so much if they knew how to actually design a map properly.”
The wide open spaces even led to players calling it “Caldera with water,” which also led to concerns since some players “dropped the game” entirely during the Vanguard era. However, it was also pointed out that the regular updates to that map made it much better to play by the time Seasons 3 and 4 rolled around.
It’s worth keeping in mind that this is all based on very early footage of a map that is still many months away. There’s every chance that the layout could change drastically by the time it launches.
The release of Black Ops 6 is also set to bring several gameplay changes to Warzone, including omni-movement which will completely change movement in the battle royale.
