Modern Warfare 3 devs reveal fan-favorite features to return: Map voting, classic minimap, more
ActivisionCoD players have received their first look at Modern Warfare 3, and the devs have confirmed the return of a number of fan-favorite features, including map voting.
Modern Warfare 3 will finally hit shelves on November 10, and the MW2 follow-up has been officially revealed through an in-game Warzone event. Many players had speculated that CoD 2023 would be a large expansion pack, but MW3 is set to be a fully-fledged sequel.
Fans can look forward to all of the Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps on day one, along with popular movement mechanics like slide canceling, as the devs look to solve many of the issues players called out in last year’s game.
That isn’t all, though, as Sledgehammer Games have confirmed the return of more fan-favorite features that will be a welcome sight to the community.
Classic minimap to return in Modern Warfare 3
The first of these returning features is the classic red dot mini-map, where any player who fires an unsuppressed weapon will be temporarily marked for enemies to see. Infinity Ward made the controversial decision to remove the feature back in Modern Warfare (2019) and stood firm again in the sequel.
It’s a move that was met with a ton of backlash from fans, so they will be relieved to see that the change will be undone in MW3.
Modern Warfare 3 to bring back map voting feature
The devs have also confirmed that the popular map voting feature, which gives a lobby the choice of two maps before each match and lets players choose which one they would prefer to play. This feature was a staple of the series for many years but has been missing since BOCW in 2020.
This system gives fans the opportunity to skip any of the classic maps they don’t enjoy playing, as long as the others in the match are in agreement.
MW3 devs confirm silent movement Perk
Finally, it’s been confirmed that there will be a Perk or Gear that unlocks silent movement in Modern Warfare 3.
“The Covert Sneakers Perk allows for silent movement (assuming you’ve chosen the correct footwear).”
When equipped, players will be able to mask their footsteps permanently, opening the door for flanking opportunities and stealthy takedowns.
Modern Warfare 2 featured the Dead Silence Field Upgrade which made movement silent, but this only lasted for a limited time. This is another feature that many fans were calling for, as it provides a huge advantage but forces them to sacrifice other Perks.
Based on these changes, it seems that Sledgehammer Games is listening to the feedback from the community to make Modern Warfare 3 the game that players want.
Fans can also look forward to a host of classic weapons as well as a brand-new campaign featuring Makarov when Modern Warfare 3 launches on November 10.
