Thanks to the Modern Warfare 3 beta, players got a taste of the updated TTK after the devs decided to increase health in MW3. While the decision to increase the TTK has gone down well with players, there remain concerns about weapon balancing in MW3.

The first weekend of the Modern Warfare 3 beta offered CoD fans a first look at the brand-new title set to arrive on November 10, 2023. It didn’t take long for players to rediscover some of the fan-favorite maps from MW2 2009.

New features like Tac-Stance and the Gear-based Perk overhaul also garnered a ton of attention amongst MW3 players. In addition to new features, Sledgehammer Games also made plenty of tweaks to gameplay such as bringing back the classic minimap and increasing the time-to-kill (TTK).

Players coming from Modern Warfare 2 quickly realized the notable increase in TTK during the Modern Warfare 3 beta. CoD fans took to the MW3 subreddit to discuss the vital change, and most had positive things to say. However, several players pointed out that the devs will likely have a difficult time balancing weapons in Modern Warfare 3 as a result.

One comment revealed the major issue that the devs will have to address given the updated TTK: “I think the average TTK is great, but too many guns deviate from the average too far. Some are melt machines and others are hitmarker machines.”

While Modern Warfare 3 is expected to provide plenty of new weapons at launch, players’ experience with the beta revealed that a select few will likely dominate the meta: “The balancing is way off, if you’re not using the ACR or Striker than you’re just dead. It’s harder to balance guns with a higher time to kill so you’re going to see a lot of this.”

“I’m interested in seeing how they will (or will not) balance a higher TTK environment,” explained one optimistic player in the comments.

Despite what players are saying about the current state of weapon balancing in MW3, the devs have plenty of time to use feedback from the beta to make tweaks for the full release.
