Modern Warfare 3’s Game Pass release makes cheaters harder to spot

Modern Warfare 3 has finally arrived on Xbox Game Pass after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard and while it’s opened the game to more players, there’s been an unexpected downside. Those with PC Game Pass appear as Xbox players in-game, making cheaters a lot more difficult to identify.

Cheating has been rampant in Call of Duty ever since crossplay arrived in Modern Warfare 2019. While some rage-hackers won’t even try to hide it, others are more sneaky, using wallhacks while pretending they aren’t. 

If you’re suspicious of a player, a reliable way to rule them out is to check their platform. While it is technically possible to use wallhacks on Xbox or PlayStation, it’s extremely rare compared to PC where you simply have to buy them. So, you’re more likely to give a console player the benefit of the doubt. 

However, Game Pass for PC requires players to use the Xbox App for Windows which makes them appear as Xbox players in-game. This means that those attempting to hide their cheats might see fewer reports as their Xbox platform rules them out. Unless Microsoft add a new icon to differentiate PC players, it’s not going to be clear what platform they’re on.

Although not entirely free, there doesn’t seem to be much stopping cheaters from setting up new accounts and taking advantage of a new Game Pass membership only costing a dollar for the first fortnight either. This means there could be a huge rise in cheaters as they can essentially get the game for free over and over again. 

With Black Ops 6 also available on Game Pass on its October 25 launch, it could suffer the same problems as Modern Warfare 3 if left unaddressed. 

Activision are continuing their fight against hackers though, shutting down two more popular cheat providers following their successful lawsuit against one of the most notorious sellers, EngineOwning.
