Modern Warfare 3 cheaters found a way to use the iconic Zombies Ray Gun in multiplayer matches, and Sledgehammer Games have addressed the issue by trolling them in the most “hilarious” way possible.

Modern Warfare 3 has enjoyed a successful launch, instantly becoming one of the most-played titles in the series to date. The community has responded well to the new multiplayer, praising the return of iconic maps with even more content to come in Season 1 Reloaded and beyond.

The game has seen its fair share of issues since its release though, from occasional server hiccups to a series of error messages. Hackers have also been a recurring problem, with many PC players encountering enemies using cheats.

One of the ways hackers had been gaining an advantage in Modern Warfare 3 was by using the Ray Gun from Zombies in regular multiplayer matches, but the devs have put a stop to this while also brutally trolling anyone who tries the exploit.

The iconic Ray Gun Wonder Weapon was added to multiplayer in MW3 Season 1, but it was only supposed to be part of the new Vortex game mode. However, cheaters found a way to use the powerful weapon in normal playlists, completely disrupting matches.

Luckily, as shared on X (formerly Twitter), the devs released a fix for the problem, as they said: “Players illicitly accessing the Ray Gun in Multiplayer will now inflict self-damage upon use.”

This means that any players using the Ray Gun in MW3 multiplayer outside of Vortex mode will no longer be able to harm enemy players, as well they will take damage to themselves every time they fire the weapon.

While some players responded to the post calling for the devs to simply ban any hackers in their game, many felt this was a great way to stop cheaters and troll them at the same time.

“This is honestly hilarious, bravo,” said one reply, before another added: “LOL I can get behind this.”

So, although hackers will still potentially be able to run a Ray Gun in MW3 multiplayer matches, they won’t be able to dominate and disrupt lobbies with it going forward.
