MW3 players call out missed opportunity with Paintball mode that’s just ‘Hardcore reskin’

Modern Warfare 3 players are getting a new Paintball mode in Season 5 Reloaded, but they’re unsure about how different the mode will be in comparison to Hardcore, especially as there’s no unique map.

Paintball brings painted bullets that splatter colors onto enemies and the environment, and also sees Operators eliminated after one shot, much like the real sport.

Players will compete in Hardpoint and Domination across a variety of maps, including cel-shaded variants. While it sounds like a new, fun experience, many are playing it down due to its similarities with Hardcore, and some feel they missed an opportunity to give it an exclusive map too.

On Reddit, user ‘Comprehensive_Rice27’ highlighted the mode and said that they wished the mode was coming with a “paintball map” like Rush from Black Ops 2, or Speedball from MW2019 that’s also in the Stadium on Warzone’s Vondel.

In the comments, many agreed with the OP, and some even called out the mode for being “hardcore with paint.”

“Reskined Hardcore basically?” asked one user, while another shared a similar comment, “So Hardcore with blue blood? lol.”

Those in the community don’t just think an exclusive map could have differentiated it further from Hardcore, but some also believe a change in bullet velocity could have made the mode feel more like Paintballing too.

“Are they gonna cap bullet velocity at something like 100m/s? That’s the part that would make the mode unique and not just “hardcore with paint.”

Others pointed out the differences between Hardcore and Paintball, despite both being game modes where players can get one-shot kills: “Hardcore has team kills, no mini-map, no HUD, no crosshairs, etc. Which isn’t mentioned here.”

We’ll have to wait and see just how different or similar Paintball is to Hardcore once it releases in Season 5 Reloaded. The update will bring plenty more new content too, including another cel-shaded map variant and some new weapons ahead of the final season.
